Hi Chris

Another thing I have picked up is that there is no sound from the speaker when I make any call, and the person can't here me on the other side as well. I can make calls thru my vehicle's stereo via Bluetooth but the speaker is still greyed out even though both parties can here each other as normal.

Also does not pick up a headset when connected.

Itunes music and videos received thru whatsapp works fine thru speaker.

Regards,

Leon

I’m having the same issue and exact same dissatisfaction with apple’s services. As a 10 year costumer, I can’t believe this is happening. I haven’t had any phones other than the iPhone and the past 3 years have been unbearable in terms of customer service. I’m not paying 300+ dollars to replace the device. I will just find a different brand that will provide better service.

Same thing is happening to my iPhone 7 Plus. I’ve been with apple for almost 10 years and even have a MacBook Air. Their employee on customer service said there was nothing they could do even though it’s a fault with Apple software. So now I have to buy a new phone or pay to get this one replaced. I will never be buying an Apple product again.

I agree - everyone is saying the same thing about the terrible support and "don't care about the customer " attitude. HOWEVER there is a solution (not that apple will tell you they just want yo claim is "faulty" nd make you pay for a new replacement phone) - I upgraded to IOS12 on my phone and now its working fine - At last! Hope this works for everyone else - please say if it does.

Hi - well it WAS working fine (you could hear and be heard on calls) after I upgraded to IOS12 but after about a day you could only hear the person calling you if you put it on speaker phone and now after about 3 days the speaker button is greyed out again and it doesn't work. I have no idea what is going on now? - Clearly the phone CAN work but it must have a software bug or something that is stopping it. I give up and agree will NEVER buy and apple phone again. Sorry everyone who hoped this had been fixed.

Same thing happened to me after I upgraded to the latest version of iOS. Speaker button greyed out, nobody can hear me when I pick up, FaceTime is not working, calls only work via headset/car Bluetooth...etc...took it in to apple and they blamed it on my charger port. Give me an option of fixing it for ~300. Gave up after talking to online support for hours (support ***** btw) Officially not an apple fan anymore after this and now converted to a happy android user!

This is so shady, update and my phone's speakerphone grays out. I go into Apple and they tell me it is a hardware issue not covered for my out of warranty phone, but the audio chip works for other applications. That makes no sense. Then on online support I am told to download another update and reinstall. Now my phone will not allow that and I have repeated errors. This is ridiculous. Apple is doing some fraudulent stuff.

I updated my phone today with the same issue. Everything thing works fine all speakers and microphones, but when making a call or receiving a call the speaker is blacked out and you cannot hear or say anything.

Went to Apple, and their assessment was that there’s a mother board issue... complete ********! And coincidentally my warranty was up under a month ago. Apple sales are down. I’ve been a loyal customer for about 8 years now and I’m appalled that this is the answer I was given. First 3 calls I recurved today we’re fine. Updated and no love, yet it’s a hardware issue, they offered me $319 to replace my phone or I can buy a new one yet they are willing to give me 200 for my year old phone.

****** ******. I’m debating switching back to android. I loved Apple until they didn’t live back. Wish Steve Jobs was still around.

Angry soon to be x Apple lover

There are 18 pages of multiple customers with the same issue now, which hasn’t been fixed by the iOS 12 update. Is Apple telling us the life of the iPhone is just about over a year even if you take great care of the device and install all necessary updates? Because this issue wasn’t caused by user damage and your in store customer service is not addressing it. Since when you stopped standing behind your products???

Thank you @tylerswire. Great collection of articles on this problem. My son's iPhone 7 ran into this problem a few weeks ago. Now upgraded to iOS 12 Beta 4 and no difference. I believe we all have the documented "Loop Disease" and as these many articles point out, it's an hardware issue not software. The Voice Memo app gives a clear message "No audio devices found".

I will try to open a Genius Bar incident, but since the phone is now out of warranty, and it appears Apple has stopped any further out-of-warranty repairs on this I assume I will get hit up on the $319 repair quote as well..

Has anyone been successful with a 3rd party resolution with the re-soldering of the audio chip? Since the iPhone 7 can run iOS 12 still a decent $50 investment for a little additional life if Apple will no longer recognize this as a manufacturing problem..

My wife's iPhone 7 has had the same issue THREE times on THREE different phones. Yes, Three! Ridiculous story that would make a good news article. First time it happened after she upgraded to ios11 in march of 2018. Took it to Apple Store, out of warranty, paid $320 and got a new phone. 2 months later it happened again. Knew if she had it twice there must be others. Found news articles about this issue that weren't out the first time we had this issue, and saw that other people were now getting it paid for out of warranty because it was now a known Apple issue. Went back to Apple Store, got a new phone again and requested a refund of the first time I paid the $320. That was a whole long month long process of calling Apple advisors, being told no, getting free airpods for my hassles, and then finally getting a call from the Apple Store manager saying they will also refund the first payment. All was good again....until, now here we are 4 months later, wife upgrades to ios12, has same issue again. Now I'm seeing online that Apple has stopped covering this? We shall see. 3 times in 7 months is no coincidence. I am lucky I never upgraded past ios10 on my phone.

Just went tonight to Apple Store and got a replacement out of warranty for the 3rd time. Didn't pay. That makes 4 phones in the past 7 months. I told them I wanted them to replace it with an iPhone 8 or newer so we don't have to keep playing this game every 2-3 months because I'm 100 percent sure any iPhone 7 they give me will break soon. they said no and that if it happens again they will most likely replace it like they have the past three times, and I should consider upgrading and trading in my new replacement phone while it is still working.

Avalon Alpharetta Georgia location. Each time was a different employee. First time it happened I paid the fee but once it happened again I knew it was an Apple issue and fought for a refund of the first time and haven't paid the fee since (on my fourth phone in 7 months). This latest time I first contacted online support through Apple.com and had them set up the appointment. I told them I didn't want to have to fight not paying the fee this time around and they said they wrote notes in my file and would "partner" with the Apple Store I was visiting to ensure it gets resolved.

My iph7+ is having same issues. I took to apple & was told they know there is speaker issues but will cost me to get a replacement phone $500. The software is 12.1. So annoyed. I have no idea what to do now as I can not afford to pay $500. This is first time i m disappointed with service at apple. First I got appointment booked at London Drugs, then they cancelled as they said take to apple. On wed apple says they are aware of issues & have advised stores to fix or replace of no chargers.
