[Problem Solved]

Dear all!

If you are having the same problem as disscussed above, please find a professional iPhone repair store and ask them to check the audio IC, it’s a tiny little chip on the mother board.

I got my iPhone 7 Plus audio IC replaced today for ¥400 (around US$60), and the problem is solved! All phone functions back to normal, phone calls normal, voice memo working, etc.

Tips: If your phone is still under warranty, please search help from Apple Store. If not, get the audio IC checked, and most likely it will work for you as well.

Again, this is not a software problem, it’s the hardware issue, another new update won’t fix it!

I had this happen to both my wife's and daughter's phone. We took my daughter's phone in to the Apple store in early July, they confirmed it was a known issue and gave her a new phone, no questions asked. Today my wife took her phone in and they tell her that it's not an issue and the only way to fix it is to buy a new phone for $319. So a month ago it was an issue, now it's not?? What a crock of crap Apple!!! What kind of customer service is that? I spend $700 on the phones and then you want me to buy another one for $319 for a problem you know your IOS upgrade caused? I'm beyond mad right now.

Went in today twice - first they asked me to pay $319 for a replacement, second time I said I felt that it was apples defect and That they should replace the phone and was told that they had taken some of the defective phones in for “research” and that the issue was caused by customers “dropping it too much” which honestly felt pretty rude that they are trying to push this issue off as a customer error

I have been to apple genius bar with the same problem and they said they can't fix it - or if they can it will be £320 to replace the unit as they said they don't know if it is the mic or speaker. (even though the speaker clearly works for music) Great! - phone is less than 2 years old. Apple need to do something about this as its obviously a generic problem

Just went tonight to Apple Store and got a replacement out of warranty for the 3rd time. Didn't pay. That makes 4 phones in the past 7 months. I told them I wanted them to replace it with an iPhone 8 or newer so we don't have to keep playing this game every 2-3 months because I'm 100 percent sure any iPhone 7 they give me will break soon. they said no and that if it happens again they will most likely replace it like they have the past three times, and I should consider upgrading and trading in my new replacement phone while it is still working.

Update, after weeks of trial & error & every tec trying their own methods to reset phone & restore & factory store, finally spoke with a supervisor. Told him to check my phone history with ime number & to find if I HAD ANY ISSUES BEFORE. Then I also told him to see forbes news on google & to check this forum & he knew what was going on so he said he will replace the phone. This 7plus is only 14 months old. I am going to wait for my Genies appointment & then see what happens this week. i have been without a phone for 3 weeks now living on text. Each time a reboot is done either I loose text or frozen phone or I cant use wifi. Hope these issues gets resolved soon. Network connection is horrible as well now.

I have this exact issue:

My Iphone 7+ suddenly had immediate issue where speaker is grayed out while call is in progress. I can’t hear the call and same with the other caller. If I plug a headphone , it will not be detected as when I play audio is plays on the speaker. Same also happens while playing videos. Mic is confirmed working as Siri can hear me. I can only hear the other caller if i use Bluetooth head phones. This immediately started after iOS 12.3 upgrade. I did all troubleshooting suggested on the internet but nothing seems to work. I went to an Apple Store in Walnut Creek CA to raise complaints. I don’t need a new phone as I don’t want to add bills. The Apple Store manager kept insisting that my unit is out of warranty. My IP7+ looks brand new as it is very well kept. The manager said that this unit has no “Application Quality?”. I browsed the internet and noticed this is a common issue in IP7 and IP7+. The manager kept insisting that I will need to pay the cost of repair which is not worth it or trade in for 200 effin 50! i started to get irritated as this is clearly a KNOWN issue on the product where it should not be happening for an 800 effin dollar phone! Bought the phone 2017 and after 2 years and 2 months this is what i got for the amount i paid. Apple should not charge the cost of repair as this is something out of expectation in buying an expensive phones! How can people with the same issue go after Apple ? This is like i bought a cheap, disposable Chinese Phone!

The manager’s reason is that i should have subscribed for insurance plan! I replied, I don’t have to subscribe as I am a very well kept person in using my phone. Also i don't want to add more bills as I trust Apple Products where every customer expects high quality investment as it will not break as easily as that! My unit has no accidental damage and never had history. Additional bill for insurance is like paying additional cost just to get the quality you are expecting which is freaking annoying! I would accept if my case is accidental damage. Once again, I bought Apple as i believe i invested money for Product's QUALITY and not pay extra to get the QUALITY. Now, the trust is gone as clearly this is I have bought @#$#in Chinese Iphone! Your product is now the same as Chinese cheap products!

Same! Since the same update! My speaker is greyed out, my phone will not process any phone call unless my apple ear pods are connected. In settings: apple id/icloud : signed in, but in iMessage and FaceTime will not individually log into apple ID, reads: "waiting for activation ". My camera will not record any sound, at all, ear pods or not, in any video or application. Ive tried factory reset, I've tried recovering a version prior to that 11.3 update, nothing works!

The same problem happened to me after I updated the iOS. Apple support have suggested backing up my phone and doing a factory reset. Didn’t work. I had made a phone call, and received one Just before the iOS update, with no problems. After a Google and YouTube search, I find that hundreds upon hundreds of people with the same problem AFTER an iOS update, yet it’s a “hardware problem”?

i have an appointment with the Apple Store on Tuesday morning (it’s now Saturday evening), but I’m not holding my breath for an easy, or free, solution. So, it would appear that Apple released an iOS that causes this “hardware malfunction”, and, because of their faulty software, we are all out of pocket, and severely inconvenienced.

It is incredible that with all the hundreds (probably thousands) of people affected by this, Apple technicians plead ignorance, and have “never heard of this problem”. Clearly HQ have told them to tow the party line, and lie, forcing naive customers to pay for repairs or upgrade their phone. Where is the queue for the class action? I’d like to join it. Why should we be out of pocket because of an iOS update?
