If your newer, 2nd gen iPad Pro models have/still have two-year extended AppleCare+, bring your iPad Pro into your “local” Apple Store for a diagnosis and possible options.

A replacement for a hardware malfunctioning iPad STILL under Applecare+ warranty is $49 U.S.D..

An out of warranty replacement iPad will be 60% of its original purchase price.

Good Luck!

Apple is not here.

Cognizant or responsible Apple designers and engineers do not read nor participate in these Apple technical support communities.

These are user to user Apple product support communities.

We are all users here, just like you!

Apple supplies these forums for users to work out their product issues with other users, but these community forums ARE monitored/moderated by Apple Staff assigned to these community forums, but I do not think any info is ever passed on to who/mever the cognizant parties are who would need to know if there are any mounting issues with a product or software.

These ASC ONLY moderators and staffers, due to Apple privacy policies, do not forward any info contained/obtained from ANY of these communities to any cognizant Apple staff, teams or individuals.

No one from upper Apple design teams will respond here.

The only way to get Apple to listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website.

iPad Feedback

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel , but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

And contrary to what you maybe thinking currently, a hard reset DOES fix a great deal of iPad issues, just maybe not this particular issue.

AND not every iPad Pro user is having this issue with their iPad Pros.

Here some more of my suggestions.

Do you have plenty of free data storage space left on your iPad?

Did you purchasse/have extended 2-year AppleCare+ on this device?

Have you brought your iPad into your “local” Apple Store for any type of diagnostic?

If your iPad Pro has extended AppleCare+, you can try and request a $49 U.S.D. iPad Pro replacement under the terms of AppleCare+ ( one accidental/incidental damage claim per year ) from your “local” Apple store, it can’t hurt, especially if they do not find that anything is wrong.

That is not right.

I use my iPads man times with the chargers plugged in and charging and have never had an issue with my iPads’ touchscreens being unresponsive.

If you have a newer iPad Pro model and this iPad Pro has/still has two-year extended AppleCare+, bring your iPad Pro into your “local” Apple Store for a diagnosis and possible options.

A replacement for a hardware malfunctioning iPad STILL under warranty is $49 U.S.D..

Perhaps you missed my listing that that is something I’ve already done in an attempt to remedy the problem.

For your reference, below is a comprehensive list of all solutions I have tried. As of today I am scheduled for a physical repair with a local apple authorized repair shop via apple support. For those curious, I will update as I find out more information. My advice is to use your handheld device or phone to record video proof of the issue as it is so sporadic you simply can’t count on it happening while you are in store.

Proper restart - using power button and on screen slide switch

hard restart - using power button and home button

toggling off/on the following, as a group, individually and in pairs - Bluetooth, WiFi, cellular data

Software updates

app updates

ensuring all apps are closed

removing and re-installing all apps

hard reset - meaning I completely wiped my iPad

charging ipad to 100% before using

allowing my battery to completely run out and shut down before recharging

using the iPad plugged in to my apple brand charger

using the ipad un-plugged from my apple brand charger

disconnecting my Apple pencil

reconnecting my Apple Pencil

forgetting all connected devices

Using with my apple brand ear buds

using without my apple brand earbuds

I’m sure there are a few others I have done to cover all my bases that I failed to add to my list. However, as you can see I’ve been very comprehensive in my approach and left no stone unturned.

To be crystal clear, I have completely wiped my iPad and reset it to the factory settings with the latest software installed and within seconds of starting up the problem started again. And before anyone suggests that it’s due to damage or improper use I have never dropped, banged or otherwise physically damaged my iPad. Nor have I exposed it to undue heat, cold, or moisture. And finally, I have only ever used apple brand accessories with my iPad.

Contact Apple customer service in Cupertino, CA.

https://www.apple.com/contact/

Calmly explain to them what happened at your “local“ Apple Store and if you need to, you can escalate your issues to higher customer service authorities at Apple in CA. once again, explaining the treatment you received at your “local” Apple Store about your iPad issues and see what Apple in CA will do to resolve your iPad issues and customer treatment you received from your “local” Apple Store.

Good Luck to You!

I have the same problem. Just started around last update release, but I can’t bemcertain. Shows-up in typing on screen where letters won’t regster the touch, and also on the flip-up to close open apps. On,the flip-up, it feels like a specific dead spot from wear, but on the key pad it feels more random so far.

i do a hard reset every morning (OCD?), but that does not seem to help.

I’d like to see a solution to this as well. Especially as I use my iPad for my business. I maxed mine out with memory, etc when I purchased it last July and even now as I attempt to type this, my on screen keyboard isn’t recognizing my finer (see, where’s that ‘g’????) taps. For $1.3k I expect more apple! This is unacceptable.

And no, a hard reset does *not* fix it. Just so it’s not suggested again. Sometimes it really isn’t that simple.

To be clear...this is sporadic, it is not app exclusive. I use everything from safari to autocad and I see it across the board in every app. Further, I see it when my iPad is in powersave mode and fully charged, when it is connected to my apple brand charger or when it’s disconnected, when I have my Apple Pencil connected and when I don’t. This issue does not discriminate.

Additionally, while this particular thread is short, this one on ifixit is long and illustrates just how many users are dealing with this particular problem and how many of us are going unheard or even flatly ignored by apple. (While it is marked as solved, the latest thread responses prove otherwise)

SOLVED: iPad Pro 12.9 touchscreen is unresponsive from time to time - iPad Pro 12.9" - iFixit

I have 1x first gen 12.9 inch iPad, and 2x second gen 12.9 inch iPads, and all three of them intermittently loose touch screen responsiveness. Sometimes it is the entire screen that responds to no touch at all. Using the home button, volume buttons, and power buttons reveal the iPad is still functioning properly. Other times the screen will have trouble reading touch, for example, you may hit a key on the keyboard and see the key go dark, but it then cancels the input as if it is regarding it as an accidental touch. One time a key even got stuck pressed down!

Some apps seem more at risk of it than others. Using Affinity photos always seems to work flawlessly, yet the iMessage app is the worst offender. Safari is also a bad one. However, given the the problem also exists on the home screen and lock screen, it doesn’t seem to be app related. Apple Pencil always registers correctly.

This problem has taken me from being a devout Apple supporter to never wanting to risk spending money on an Apple product again.

I’m having issues with my iPad Pro 12.9 inch 1st generation having major issues with touch sporadically. Hard boot shuts it down sometimes there is a temporary fix other times not. Current iPad Pro was a replacement for a fault with the first one. Not good Apple. Will definitely be following up with ACCC consumer laws if need be. My old iPad purchased in 2012, still ticks over well and has never had a problem. *shrugs*
