FCPX - Cannot get filmstrip view on import

I've read in an earlier discussion that it is not possible to see filmstrip view when importing video from withing the computer or hard drives but it is viewable using a camera media card or the camera source. I am using a media card plugged into the MacBook but still not able to get filmstrip view. I put the media card back in the camera and connected the camera in USB mode and still no filmstrip view. List view only no matter how I connect. What am I missing? Has anyone figured this out yet?

Many thanks

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), Using FCP 10.4

Notice the folder is listed under devices not cameras. You have a folder, and it looks like it’s copied some of the contents of a camera card and is not a complete archive of the card. The menu item you show is for the browser; you’re not in the browser you’re in the import window. Making the selection just takes you out of the import window. As long as you’re making selections from devices you can only select a complete clip.

I don’t know the specs of the media your camera shoots. If you use a card reader and load the card, does it appear on the computer desktop? If you just using the camera for playback I don’t know what settings are required to make it mount on the computer. If it does mount you should be able to use the import window and use should be able too create an FCP camera archive.

Al,

Thank you for the reply. Your answer is how is should be, but that's not what I have. My screen will populate with the list view and no Filmstrip icon below. When I choose the toggle option from the drop down menu, the list disappears but no Filmstrip view replaces it. I get a single picture in the viewer and all black below. I do however get the toggle icon below but when I click on it, it goes back to the list view. This has always been the case and I didn't even realize there was a filmstrip option until I watched an Izzy Hyman tutorial. I never understood why I would need to import an entire clip when only a portion was usable. It seems I will have to continue though.

Thanks again,

Neil

The card files do not show up on my desktop - only in Finder as one of the Devices. Same as the FCP Import options. Connecting my camera to the MacBook shows nothing. Computer doesn't see it. Not sure why, the JVC 600 isn't some oddball camera. It's been used for several years and still considered a current device. Somewhat surprised no one has figured this out yet.

Thanks for your help Tom. Appreciate your multiple responses.

Yes, cards are formatted in camera. Last night, for whatever reason the filmstrip view appeared and I was able to toggle between it and the list view. However, while I can select ranges from multiple clips, I can only select one range for any given clip at a time. Not the way it's supposed to work but it's better than what I had.

Thanks again for the support.

There are adjustments at the bottom of the Import Window:

User uploaded file

The button indicated toggles between Clip and List View.
