iOS 11.3 Carplay Call Quality Issues

Anyone else having issues with CarPlay phone call quality (you can hear the person that is

talking perfectly but all they hear from you is just a garbled mess, issue is
not present if using BlueTooth) after updating to iOS 11.3?

Verified as an iOS 11.3 issue by plugging in multiple pre iOS 11.3 phones into the same car using the same lightning cable. No issues whatsoever with any of them.

It is not a problem with my CarPlay system as has been suggested in many other posts about this issue,it is iOS 11.3 causing this behaviour. The rollback window for 11.2.6 has been closed so I can no longer downgrade to this.

Ditto. iPhone 6s on iOS 11.3 connected to a kenwood ddx9704s. Car play works great (nav, texts, music, etc) except for calls. Bluetooth calls are perfect. Using Apple lightning cable hooked to Ken woods provided usb extension.

I have the same issue with my iPhone se on IOS 11.3, really irritating. I just had a new Kenwood with CarPlay installed in my truck to specifically to use carplay with and now it is all total cr$p. I am getting really tired of investing in the apple line with it poor QAQC. My industry would not tolerate this. 😟 Might as well use an android with Bluetooth.

11.3 update included this:

Telephony

Available for: iPhone 5s and later, and WiFi + Cellular models of iPad Air and later

Impact: A remote attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code

Description: Multiple buffer overflows were addressed with improved input validation.

CVE-2018-4148: Nico Golde of Comsecuris UG

I am curious what that is. Because what I hear sounds like a buffer issue.

Hi

I have a jvc kw v930 bwm the latest available head unit in South Africa from Kenwood sister company jvc..

Ever since iOS 11.3 on my iPhone 7 Plus people answering CarPlay calls via the lightning cable aren’t able to hear me.. audio is garbled on their side, I am able to hear them clearly and Bluetooth calls seem fine both ways ...

I took my phone to the car audio fitment place and tried and another iphone with iOS 11.3 and was able to replicate the issue..

Strangely However when we tried my phone on a Sony CarPlay Head unit the garbled audio issue didn’t affect the Sony unit...

This leads me to believe that it’s an issue with iOS 11.3 and JVC-Kenwood...

Note that iOS 11.3.1 does nothing to fix the issue..

I have reset my phone to factory defaults, tried various lighting cables, reset the jvc Head unit to factory defaults and still no joy..

there is another issue with jvc and Kenwood when it comes to usb flash music playback on dual usb equipped head units.. if you play music off the flash disk and an incoming call is received via lightning/CarPlay the head unit freezes up completely..

Apple JVC Kenwood I have videos to prove this

I have exactly the same problem.

When making a CarPlay phone call I can hear the person that is talking perfectly but What they hear is a garble and choppy, They tell me I'm breaking up. If I disconnect the lightning cable and make the call using Bluetooth they can hear me just fine.

Brand new Kenwood DDX6704S, New iPhone X running the latest IOS 11.3.1, using the brand new out of the box lightning cable. Rebooted the iPhone and Stereo ( actually did a cold boot of both devices) I even went as far as plugging the Lighting cable directly into the back of the car stereo. This made absolutely no difference.

My issue with 11.3.1 is now that I'm updated to the latest IOS I now have issues with CarPlay. I have an iphone x connected to a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX. My issue is all of carplay works except phone calls. The calls show up on screen of the radio but the only way to use the phone is through speaker phone directly on the phone. Yeah it's still hands free but I can barely hear my callers and they can barely hear me.

I have the exact same problem. Brand new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Willy’s, bought yesterday...Cartoys installed a brand new Kenwood hu today. Then....every single person I tried to call and talk to today said “I can’t understand you”...every single time I had to unplug my phone and use Bluetooth...$1340 bucks for the Kenwood Hu and a couple cameras, installed....and the only real reason I bought it was for CarPlay...$1340 bucks—-oh, I said that already...I‘m a pro photographer, I have 2 Ipad pros, 9.7 and the latest model 12. I have 3 iPhones, 2X’s (one is my gf’s, and I have an 8(red) I use as a hotspot...I have a MacBook Pro as well...two years ago I swore by Apple...100%...after all the problems I’ve had lately, with the phones, the iPads, the constant useless updates and the $1000 iphoneX just having issues EVERY SINGLE time I turn around...I’m ready to have a big Apple sale, and get myself a pc and a S9. I miss you Steve.

Hi

See this thread above...

People are claiming that the beta version 6 of iOS 11.4 fixes this issue not sure when the official release will be available for download.. so try at your own risk...

That said the JVC-KENWOOD units are crap I’m swopping mine Jvc kw v 930 Bwm for the alpine ilx 702d in South Africa this weekend...

Prior to iOS 11.3 the JVc unit crashes whenever you play music of a flash disk and have CarPlay connected on dual usb JVC-KENWOOD head unit..

As for JVC-KENWOOD support that ***** big time...

I’ve been having issues since I purchased this JVC-KENWOOD product since December 2017....

Dual usb head units that support CarPlay just don’t seem to work..

It’s no wonder alpine and a few others only released single USB ports

When a audio company finally gets into the 21 century and starts paying attention to problems and informing their consumers asap i'll be buying exclusively from that company. If I owned Kenwood and found out this was a known issue on an open board and my employees had not so much as mentioned it i would be telling them to start learning to say "would you like fries with that". Yes a representative of Kenwood should have been on the board paying attention daily and chiming in. There is no telling how many hours folks have wasted taking there cars back to an installers and having them check connections or just trying to fix it their selves. It took me 2 days of searching just to find this board. Issues like this should be easily found in a simple search. Thanks to the to the people on here i did not waste anymore time. Thank you for doing what Kenwood/JVC and Pioneer should have done their selves.
