Tell Apple you would like that feature: Feedback - iPhone - Apple.

Siri will have to get much more sensitive and multiple microphones to accomplish that (the HomePod has 6 I believe) and it is going to pull more battery power.

yes. i tried both my ipad pro and iphone 7+ before replying and no problems. i was out driving yesterday and had no problems with siri. turn off both bluetooth and wifi and restart wifi and then bluetooth. make sure your bluetooth is on while in your car. you can always use a cable and carplay to bypass BT and see if siri will hear you while playing music.

i have found in my case it was with Apple Music, all other services worked fine and siri would respond.hope this helps.

"Hey Siri" used to work better, she seems to be getting more limited with each recent iOS update. I recently updated from a 6s to an X and she's much more limited even on the same iOS! I hoped she'd work better, but she's so smart she's stupid now.

She will not answer you while a song is playing. She will sometimes respond during quiet spaces or the spaces between songs. But she has a new coding limitation (probably meant to extend battery life as a feature but the way it works is like a bug) where she will not respond while the phone is facedown when "Motion and Fitness" is enabled. Supposedly turning off that feature will fix that issue, but mine seems to ignore "Hey Siri" when facedown no matter what I do. Maybe that's another "feature" for the iPhone X, but it should be an option users are aware of and can actually control. Since facedown is my preferred way to rest my phone for privacy, I guess I'll be using my Amazon smart speakers a lot more because they can hear me over loud tv and even over music currently being played on that speaker.

Hey there, just FYI, I called Apple Care and we got Hey Siri working with my music on. I knew it was supposed to do this. The tech said yes, she makes her grocery lists while driving to work, with the music on. And I know Siri used to skip songs for me, asking while music was playing. Anyway its working now:)

It crossed my mind, they were limiting Siri for security reasons. I have friends who can activate my Hey Siri and that’s not supposed to be possible. You’re probably right about a code glitch. I’ve just worked with another senior advisor and we ruled out all obvious software/settings’ issues, and the X passed their hardware anylitics test. We can get her working with the music on, for a few hours then it just stops working. If the music if off Hey Siri works great. (My husband’s 6s Hey Siri works with the music on just perfect.)
