2017 iMac Windows 10 on BootCamp 6 wont shutdown

I have a brand new 2017 iMac on which I installed windows 10 Pro. I installed the Bootcamp support software and for the most part the system works fine - except for one annoying issue: I cant shutdown or hibernate the system, it will only restart. I have done as much research as i could and FWIW -

Fast startup on windows 10 power settings is disabled.
Installed and reinstalled Bootcamp windows 10 support software.
Don't know if this is an issue the Intel Management engine.

At this point i am going to have to remove windows 10 and make do with windows 7, unless someone can help me with this problem. I am worried i have restarted the system so many times already, it may damage the SSD or some other component of my new iMac. Please help. Desperate!!!

This is why I stated that W7 cannot be run on a 2017 iMac.

Are you able to shutdown the Mac properly from the macOS side?

You will not damage the SSD.

Just tried all of this... In windows 10 the power button is set to shutdown the computer. I changed the default power settings plan and am using the high performance plan. Nothing seems to work, even a fresh install of W10 doesn't solve it. When i click on shutdown, the system will shutdown, then power back up to the windows login unless i boot into mac os and shutdown from there. I was guessing this may be a RAM issue, but MAC os reports the full RAM installed without issues and so does W10 (24 GB installed, 23.9 usable). No idea what gives...

I am using a USB 3 hub attached, i unplugged it, still doesn't resolve the issue.

In Windows Device Manager, is there an AHCI driver?

In Windows Event Manager are there any events related to Power after the time you shutdown? You will need to test using a precise timestamp of when you shutdown and when the restart happens. We are interested in any events between shutdown and startup. I recommend disconnecting all external devices, except the Keyboard and Mouse when executing these tests. A SMC and NVRAM Reset after disconnecting all such external devices is recommended, before you run any tests.

In the device manager - I don't see anything related to AHCI. There is ACPI but not AHCI.

In the Event Viewer there are lots of entries since the shutdown time -

- A Warning entry which might be of interest and its source is BTHUSB. The general tab for this entry states "Windows rejected a device connection because the device didn't establish encryption prior to the service level connection."

- Another Information entry, source is 'Service Control Manager' and has this text in General -

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) did not load:

dam".

However, I disconnected all devices and the system shutdown normally (tried it twice), connected everything back including a USBC to USBA adapter and the issue came back. I am guessing its the adapter.

Yes, that is what I suspected earlier. Can you post the details of the USBc-to-USBA adapter?

It's exactly this one -

Does this mean I can't connect anything to these thunderbolt USB C ports in windows? I'm doing one more test to see if the USB C hub will work - that too has a USB C plug.

Resolved. The issue is with the power setting where a setting for USB suspended sleep was enabled. Simply disabling this setting allows the system to shutdown normally.
