icloud for windows keeps asking for password

I am using a Dell i7 laptop with fully-updated Windows 10 Home.

Computer runs antivirus and Malwarebytes.

I have been using iCloud for Windows on my device for years, BUT

For the last 48 hours, every time my computer awakes from sleep or is rebooted, I am asked for my iCloud for windows password and my two-factor authentication code.

I have uninstalled all Apple software and freshly reinstalled just iCloud for Windows, but the issue persists.

I spent an hour+ on the phone with Apple Support yesterday, but no solution yet, so I am turning to the Community for some ideas.

Thanks to all!

I was able to uninstall using Control Panel as an Administrator--you can't uninstall using Windows 10 Settings. After I uninstalled I went back to the older v6.2 as mentioned here and the popups have stopped. Good luck.

Do what I plan to do. STOP using IOS related software on Windows PCs. I keep getting "error connecting to Apple ID server" every time I try to logon to iCloud on my HP15 Windows 10 laptop even though my HP15 Windows 9.1 does logon with no problem. Microsoft is no help; they insist it's an Apple problem since it's Apple software.

I wish I hadn't bought an iPad; my Android tablets are SO MUCH EASIER to connect to my PCs.

Having the problem on my laptop only, but desktop is fine. Same versions of Windows 10 Pro and same versions of iCloud. I went to the iCloud settings on the web and removed the 3 laptop device instances there. I noticed that when I logged back into icloud on the laptop - and then came back to icloud settings on the web, the laptop is coming up with a version of windows as 6.2.2 and not Windows 10 - which it was before.

Going to restart the laptop now to see if the iCloud login recurs. Will update shortly.

I have been through a lot of troubleshooting with Apple's support team and everything points to this being down to a bug introduced recently in iCloud for Windows or their APIs.

We found that the issue only occurs if you have two-factor authentication enabled on your account and are prompted to enter the 6-digit code at login. If you disable two-factor authentication (I don't recommend it for security reasons), the issue goes away.

In capturing logs when reproducing the issue, there is an API call that iCloud for Windows is making to Apple's servers every now and again to check you are still logged in. This call receives a bad response back from the server, and causes iCloud for Windows to assume you need to login again.

Sadly I haven't had any update as to when this will be fixed.
