10.13.4 breaks DisplayLink. Will there be a fix?

The most recent update to macOS, 10.13.4, breaks video over USB as used by products which connect using DisplayLink drivers.

My touch screen AKAI MPC Touch (music production hardware) is unusable with this latest update. I am aware that many, many others are affected, particularly those using additional monitors with DisplayLink.

The question is whether this is an intentional policy decision by Apple, or an oversight which will be remedied in a future update?

Please respect users enough to give a clear, prompt answer on this. Many mac users are now faced with having expensive hardware which is unusable, and worse, being blocked from working and creating.

Some hopefully good news from the Displaylink forums:

"Our team has made some solid progress towards finding a solution which would restore extended display support in a future release of macOS. We are still unable to provide a timeframe or a date for release of this solution.

Meanwhile, we have been developing a partial workaround solution which would add one extended USB display (up to 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4. We are aiming to release a preview version of this driver in around 7 to 10 days. The precise date depends on how the solution performs under deeper and wider testing, and how long it takes to resolve remaining issues. We expect the driver to enable one extended 1080p screen, and one cloned screen connected to a DisplayLink device. There may be some other functional limitations.

The new alpha driver will be posted online as soon as possible."

Apple is aware of all products that are made to work on their hardware.

What does that have to do with them providing a solution? That would be purely up to DisplayLink.

i buy my mac mini in 2014, most interface of it is usb, you just cancel support usb extend monitor, my work is seriesly effected😕😕😕

Thanks for sharing that. Let's hope this will be a working stop-gap solution until there is something better long-term.

The mac mini has HDMI and Thunderbolt...

Well, in my case this cemented for me that I'll be buying a new laptop soon - and it won't be a Mac. So frustrating. If they want to force me to buy new, it won't be from them.

June 2018 and still no working dual monitors on MacOS. @Apple how about lending a little hand to the engineers at DisplayLink, MacBook users would like to use all the screens they paid for.

Can you expand on and explain how my Apple iMac 2010 could support up to four monitors. With only one thunderbolt port I cannot see without a UGREEN display link adaptor this cannot be achieved.

Yep, sadly I can’t upgrade to Mojave - just tried to install the public beta and found it I’m no longer supported. : (
