iLife 08 installed everything BUT iMovie... The ONLY thing I wanted out of it.

I Have a MacBook pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2Duo

4GB 1067 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512MB

OS X 10.9.5 .... Old as dirt POS.

It was getting so **** slow that I had to wipe it... Well I didn't look for my install disks... I installed with out a disk using a YouTube video. It worked, computer is clean and working fine. Noticed that iMovie was gone. I need it. I'm pretty sure I had iLife 08 on the computer originally so I bought the iLife 08 DVD from Amazon.

It installed everything just fine except for iDVD (don't know how it's related) and iMovie... The only thing I need.

I search for "iMovie" in spotlight, and it comes up but it's grayed out with a white x out over it.. and when I go to open it it says "you can't use this version of the application "iMovie" with this version of OSX you have iMovie 7.0... " but I don't. I have no iMovie on the the computer except the one I'm trying to install!!!!

I have tried everything on the internet. Fixing permissions, delteing all files with iMovie in them, uninstalling and reinstalling, even erased the hard drive a second time... I try to go update and none of the updates will open because it says I don't have an iMovie application on the computer...

I don't get it.

I know it's old but any help would be great. I can't afford buying a new Mac and I desperately need this for my job, my boss wants me making video tours of our properties.

My computer won't run the new version from the app store, so this is my only hope...

Thank you!

Hi,

If Spotlight is finding iMovie 7 on your computer then the application probably is stored in the Applications folder. Look in Applications and see if you can see an iMovie 7 icon, grayed out or not. If it's there, control-click on it and click on Show Package Contents in the drop down menu. Then click on MAC OS > iMovie and see if iMovie opens.

"you can't use this version of the application "iMovie" with this version of OSX you have iMovie 7.0... " but I don't. I have no iMovie on the the computer except the one I'm trying to install!!!!

The version of iMovie that is on iLife '08 is version 7, so the reference to iMovie 7.0 ,above, is probably that of the one

you are trying to open.

CTRL + click on the application and select GET INFO, you should see details of the version number.

I have not seen any mention of iMovie '08 (ver 7) not working with 10.9.5 so not sure what the problem is, unless it has something to do with installing the OSX from the You Tube video.

What operating system did your Mac originally come with, Leopard or Snow Leopard ?

If you do have the original install discs you could try installing iMovie from the second disc.

I'm not 100% sure which operating system I had originally. It's a 2008 computer i bought in a bundle at Best Buy, so when I bought it it already had the iLife Suite on it. I want to say it was Snow Leopard ....as I remember something that said snow leopard on it... But it could have been when I upgraded to OS... have a bad memory lol.

Unfortunately I don't have the original discs. I literally stripped my entire house and cannot find them. :( I've moved several times over the years and it seems every time I've moved, I lost something important for this MacBook. Lol.

The YouTube video was an instruction on how to factory reset and then reinstall whatever your last version of OSX was from the iCloud Support using an internet connection in the Disk Utility during the

startup. https://youtu.be/0HiAOBMiSaQ

It just boggles my mind that everything else is installed but the iMovie program... I don't get it. It says all I need is the OS version 10.4 or greater on the box... and I have greater so it should work.... right??? Lol.

Is there any retailer that sells the original set up discs for my model?

Can you confirm something for me please.?

The YouTube video was an instruction on how to factory reset and then reinstall whatever your last version of OSX was from the iCloud Support using an internet connection in the Disk Utility during the startup

Firstly you factory reset to your original OS ( Leopard or Snow Leopard ????)

then updated to OSX 10.9.5 Then installed iMovie from iLife 08.Corect?

Try this instead.

Factory reset to your original OS, then install iMovie from iLife 08 then update to OSX 10.9.5
