Mac constantly asking for Facebook password

After changing my Facebook password, I keep getting a notification from the system (NOT the browser) "Facebook Password Required: Enter your password in Internet Accounts." In System Preferences -> Internet Accounts, clicking on Facebook gives me the message "Can't connect to the account Facebook. Enter the password for user [MY NAME]" When I put the password in, it says "Unable to verify account name or password."

The password is correct. I can log in to facebook just fine through the browser or on my phone, but after I changed the password in the browser, it broke the integration with mac apps through the system (for instance, I cannot post a photo to facebook from the photos app anymore). I've tried deleting the facebook account entirely from System Preferences and making a new one, but the same problem occurs.

I'm on a Macbook Air running the current version of High Sierra.

I was having this issue and I think I've found a solution. Go to security and login then choose two-factor authentication. At the bottom you have an option for recovery codes. Get this list and choose one. Put that in as your password and it will accept it. Haven't had the nagging message for some time now.

Sadly it looks like the ability to share on Facebook from Safari and other apps will not be fixed.

Apple and Facebook goes into WAR path and integration with Facebook will be removed totally from OS. 3rd party plugin or if Facebook (doubt!) will release official app will allow to do this so.

When on iOS is not a big problem, for macOS there will be no alternative for now.

Don't blame only Apple, blame Facebook for mishandling our data and affecting our privacy.

It starts working for me now.

I removed completely Facebook connection then read. When typed password and go forward, got a red message to enter the password from a text message. Instead of that, I enter the code from my Authenticator 2FA app and it logged in and do not ask for the password again.

Seams to be working, however, its short solution, as integration will be removed in Mojave update in September.

Same problem, and I found the same odd "Device type unknown" login on my Where You're Logged log in Facebook, too. I suspect that due to the GDPR, Facebook has upgraded the security around app permissions, and Apple has yet to get their "app" (the specific access for Calendar, Contacts, etc.) upgrade to match. My guess is it will remain broken for a week or two, until the next major MacOS update, and then it will be fixed.

Yeah this just started happening to me on the 24th or 25th. I hadn't changed my password, but I went ahead and did that and it didn't fix the problem. I also tried deleting and re-adding the account in System Preferences but the same thing happens. It looks like the password is accepted, but a little bit later it asks again. On the Facebook website under Settings/Security & Login/Where You're Logged In I see multiple separate instances of Device type unknown · Cincinnati, OH, United States with my IP address that all appear to be logged in. Forcing those to logout from that page doesn't work. So it seems it's in some sort of limbo.

Same thing here. I removed all the devices labelled unknown in FB Security and Login / 'Where you're logged in' through Facebook in a browser (Firefox, which works just fine on the mac) - there were at least 4 - all with the same IP. Also removed OS X from list of 'Authorised Logins'.

Restarted the mac, reapplied the password in Internet Accounts, it seems to instantly reject it with 'Unable to verify account name or password'. After this there is no new device listed in FB Security and Login / Where you're logged in.

I reckon FB have changed something, possibly to do with the GDPR changes recently, but that's just a guess. Off to search FB forums...

I wanted to post a photo from the Mac to FB - it's so much easier to post from Photos than from the browser as you have to export to a location then post from the file system (AFAIK).

A client called me with this exact same problem today. He reported changing his Facebook password 6 days ago. The problem started right after that. He can access facebook.com just fine. And he can successfully post photos via the FB web site. He can also still post photos to his Facebook account using the "share" feature on his iPhone. But the "share" option in Photos on his 27" 2017 iMac running the latest version of High Sierra, does exactly what is described by the original poster. His 2011 Macbook Pro, also running the latest version of High Sierra, also exhibits this problem now. We tried completely deleting his Facebook account from "Internet Accounts", rebooting, and then adding the Facebook account back, to no avail.

I suspect it's something to do withe Intelligent Tracking Prevention. ITP makes third party cookies unavailable after 24 hrs unless you've visited the site in question. Since the prompt seems to go away for 24 hrs after I re-login to FB I suspect it may be correlated and the oauth cookie is being suppressed.

Whatever it is it's annoying and I've turned off FB integration.

@monkeybard don’t bother changing your password that isn’t the problem imo. i even tried creating an app specific password and that didn’t work

@zradwin i understand your frustration, dude. such a simple fix (imo but i ain’t no techie). in the meantime, just do what i did and disable your facebook internet account on mac os... you’re not missing much.

Just as an FYI. Experience based on Macbookpro mid 2009 v10.11.6 (but not happening on newer 'minis' on high sierra).

Last few days experience problems: CPU use + fan run time and ancillary problems (can't log in after sleep...) . Been round the houses zapping NVRAM / resetting SMC. Still carried on.

Don't bother until you have checked this: Activity monitor: process: 'callservicesd' + soagent. If these are going bonkers, Deactivated facebook account = cpu back to normal and fan off.

Hopefully someone here will be kind enough to let us know when the situation is resolved by one or other Company.
