Mac constantly asking for Facebook password

After changing my Facebook password, I keep getting a notification from the system (NOT the browser) "Facebook Password Required: Enter your password in Internet Accounts." In System Preferences -> Internet Accounts, clicking on Facebook gives me the message "Can't connect to the account Facebook. Enter the password for user [MY NAME]" When I put the password in, it says "Unable to verify account name or password."

The password is correct. I can log in to facebook just fine through the browser or on my phone, but after I changed the password in the browser, it broke the integration with mac apps through the system (for instance, I cannot post a photo to facebook from the photos app anymore). I've tried deleting the facebook account entirely from System Preferences and making a new one, but the same problem occurs.

I'm on a Macbook Air running the current version of High Sierra.

Yeah this just started happening to me on the 24th or 25th. I hadn't changed my password, but I went ahead and did that and it didn't fix the problem. I also tried deleting and re-adding the account in System Preferences but the same thing happens. It looks like the password is accepted, but a little bit later it asks again. On the Facebook website under Settings/Security & Login/Where You're Logged In I see multiple separate instances of Device type unknown · Cincinnati, OH, United States with my IP address that all appear to be logged in. Forcing those to logout from that page doesn't work. So it seems it's in some sort of limbo.

A client called me with this exact same problem today. He reported changing his Facebook password 6 days ago. The problem started right after that. He can access facebook.com just fine. And he can successfully post photos via the FB web site. He can also still post photos to his Facebook account using the "share" feature on his iPhone. But the "share" option in Photos on his 27" 2017 iMac running the latest version of High Sierra, does exactly what is described by the original poster. His 2011 Macbook Pro, also running the latest version of High Sierra, also exhibits this problem now. We tried completely deleting his Facebook account from "Internet Accounts", rebooting, and then adding the Facebook account back, to no avail.

I suspect it's something to do withe Intelligent Tracking Prevention. ITP makes third party cookies unavailable after 24 hrs unless you've visited the site in question. Since the prompt seems to go away for 24 hrs after I re-login to FB I suspect it may be correlated and the oauth cookie is being suppressed.

Whatever it is it's annoying and I've turned off FB integration.

Same problem, tried the standard work arounds that could deal with corrupt preferences data (removing account integration and re-adding on macOS / deleting active sessions on FB so that we are starting with a clean login), and the issue persists. The only thing I have to add is that I'm not using FB 2 factor auth, and some people who have this problem are, so it doesn't seem to be directly correlated to the problem in any way.

Also had this problem, that I first noticed towards the end of May. I spent an hour on line with Apple support, basically going through and removing all my accounts and recreating them.

I have the Problem on a MacBook Air, and Mac Mini, all running 10.13.4.

I just updated to 10.13.5 and retried, but still have the problem. All the other accounts are fine, just Facebook not working.

At least now I know I'm not alone. This is a really annoying problem. I didn't really how much i just used the share button to avoid using the facebook share buttons on websites that I don't always trust their code.

Facebook is shaking his *** in relation to Cambridge Analitica and GDPR. They changed apps integration and prior to GDPR in Europe they change other connections braking things. Now developers need to sort this out. Some other companies like LinkedIn also do some changes without informing what and when. I noticed that some iOS games are struggling with publishing materials on Facebook due to lack of permission. It is possible when the game is authenticating through Facebook app, but in another way its broken as well.

Just as an FYI. Experience based on Macbookpro mid 2009 v10.11.6 (but not happening on newer 'minis' on high sierra).

Last few days experience problems: CPU use + fan run time and ancillary problems (can't log in after sleep...) . Been round the houses zapping NVRAM / resetting SMC. Still carried on.

Don't bother until you have checked this: Activity monitor: process: 'callservicesd' + soagent. If these are going bonkers, Deactivated facebook account = cpu back to normal and fan off.

Hopefully someone here will be kind enough to let us know when the situation is resolved by one or other Company.

I was about to descend into tracing messages when I discovered this thread (phew!). I considered all the possibilities and tried all the likely solutions/circumventions listed here ...yesterday, before stumbling upon this ...today (idiot). I have now signed up as a participant in the collective 'load sharing' - as of now, I've given up doing anything on the issue.

Looking at single points of failure though, (eg twitter and LinkedIn integration works) our mac-fb disintegration could be collateral damage from Cook's assault on Zuckerberg using his shiny new smart bombs: "Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Prevention" and "App Limits".

A retaliatory change in facebook's API/Auth protocol?

A new (failing) cookie/script restriction in macOS?

Who knows?

'Zuckerberg's people' will be talking to 'Cook's people' on the red telephones to quietly resolve the issue, Khrushchev-Kennedy style. Meantime, mac/fb users repetitively share random safari pages to their timelines to check current integration status, knowing they'll hear nothing from Zuckerberg or Cook who'll have a non-disclosure clause in their resolution agreement. Users (definition): the pawn sacrifices that protect the game strategy. Lol, you thought you were a valued customer? 😂 😳

Sadly it looks like the ability to share on Facebook from Safari and other apps will not be fixed.

Apple and Facebook goes into WAR path and integration with Facebook will be removed totally from OS. 3rd party plugin or if Facebook (doubt!) will release official app will allow to do this so.

When on iOS is not a big problem, for macOS there will be no alternative for now.

Don't blame only Apple, blame Facebook for mishandling our data and affecting our privacy.

It starts working for me now.

I removed completely Facebook connection then read. When typed password and go forward, got a red message to enter the password from a text message. Instead of that, I enter the code from my Authenticator 2FA app and it logged in and do not ask for the password again.

Seams to be working, however, its short solution, as integration will be removed in Mojave update in September.
