iOS 11.4 Battery Drain!

Why and how do I fix the new issue with battery drain after updating to iOS 11.4? Before updating, might loose as much as 10% overnight on my 6s. After update it now drains completely from 100% over the course of the night to the point that it won’t start until I plug it in and let it charge a bit. iPad air2 drains much more as well, but not to the same extreme.

My iPhone 6S was loosing 30 - 40% overnight on standby after updating to 11.4. I tried virtuall all recommendations over a 4 day period. I finally gave up and rolled back to 11.3.1. Now only drains 0 to 1% overnight. Pretty clear apple needs to step up on this one.

Your first issue is there is no iOS 12.3. There is a 3rd beta of iOS 12. It is available to subscribed developers first so they can update their apps to use the new features in iOS 12 and the developers don't mind the $99 fee.

There is a public beta available now if you want to try again without fraudulently obtaining it and risking a security breach on your iPhone. If you have ever beta tested software you need to have a lot of patience and be good at isolating and reporting problems. And early versions of beta software are will known to have battery issues.

If you continued to have battery drain on the beta you had that could either mean that the beta itself added to it or, more likely, that it isn't the iOS that is causing your battery drain but something else on your iPhone.

At this point in the fiasco, "3rd beta of ios 12 and ios 12.3 is nothing more than semantics, but thanks for the clarification...you've been more honest to us than Apple has been up to this point. They have only given me the impression that they want to take more money from me than be honest about the situation...now that you've mentioned "fraudulent". Believe it or not, if they were honest from the get go, we would be more understanding but as of now, we have yet to hear of a time line for a fix because they have yet to acknowledge there is a software issue.

I do appreciate your concern about a possible breach to my iphone but really, can my phone be in any worse condition...it's useless to me and many others. And yes, I have worked with Xerox (large format) and Autodesk to beta test firmwares and software updates in order to support my Engineering and Architectural clients. The difference between these respected vendors and Apple is that they do not insist that the client purchase a new hardware when they have no clue what may be the cause of the problem to begin with. But imagine that...all I've gotten back from my last email to them are "crickets", when I informed them that I refuse to buy a new battery, but I was open to coming down to an Apple location and have them install a new battery on their dime...still waiting for a response 😉

Now, can please you lead us to this "public beta", if it exists, because I would think it would be in Apple's best interest to inform us that a fix is available to show that they care?

We'll be anxiously waiting....

This is not the issue. It is iOS 11.4. My phone was working flawless on 11.3.1. Now I can literally watch my battery percentage go down. Lost 40 percent in an hour. It appears to be a WiFi related issue as it drains normal when WiFi is off. Hello Apple are you there? Are we not loud enough for you to hear? Get off your pedestal and do something. You claim to be the best in the industry. Prove it!

No, Apple is not here. But you can call AppleCare or make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and they can test your iPhone. But in the meantime unless there is a very weak WiFi signal that is taxing the phone WiFi by itself will not drain a battery a process or app using WiFi drains it. Which app shows to be using it on your phone?

Ive already called Apple Care and all they are good for is telling you to restore to new. I’ve done and have tried just about everything to fix this. Nothing works. If you read most of the posts the majority of them say turn off WiFi. That’s the only thing that has stopped the battery drain for me. If you know something I don’t please by all means share.

I installed the update yesterday and battery seems much better. It was at 82% when I turned it off last night. Turned it on at 5:30 this morning and have been using it off and on for several hours and it is only down to 65%. Much better. There was also an update for Mac yesterday to update to High Sierra 10.13.6. I updated and haven't had any problems with it.

iPhone 6s with 11.4 and later 11.4.1, same issue that’s discussed here. Battery draining about 3-4x faster than prior to either update. Turning off WiFi seems to be a temporary fix. Phone runs very hot, too. Have rebooted phone multiple times, although not the hard reboot suggested here so I will try Home button + power and see if that works.

I am also having the same issue. Running iOS 11.4 on iPhone SE. Battery life has been less than ideal since the update last fall (charging just about every day instead of every few days as I did on 11.3), but last night I went to sleep with 90% battery life and when I woke my phone had shut off. Had to plug it in and charge for a few minutes to even get it to turn on. Have tried turning off iCloud drive & backup, disabling background refresh & notifications for nearly all my apps, and hard reset. I have more than enough spare memory (102 GB available of 128 GB). Battery health app shows that my maximum capacity is 91% & my battery supports normal peak performance. I am hesitant to switch to iOS 11.4.1 though because of the issues reported with the app store. I've read that switching the wifi off helps- I typically do this at night but it doesn't seem to really solve the problem. Apple Support- help us please!!

I was having the same problem as you after installing 11.4. My battery was draining so fast even when not using so I had to keep it plugged in to charge. I was hesitant to install 11.4.1, but after reading several posts where it helped the battery problem I decided to give it a try. It couldn't be any worse. I am happy to say it fixed my battery drain and my battery is back to normal. I can go all day on a charge and only be down to 70-80% at the end of the night.
