iOS 11.4 Battery Drain!

Why and how do I fix the new issue with battery drain after updating to iOS 11.4? Before updating, might loose as much as 10% overnight on my 6s. After update it now drains completely from 100% over the course of the night to the point that it won’t start until I plug it in and let it charge a bit. iPad air2 drains much more as well, but not to the same extreme.

My iPhone 6S was loosing 30 - 40% overnight on standby after updating to 11.4. I tried virtuall all recommendations over a 4 day period. I finally gave up and rolled back to 11.3.1. Now only drains 0 to 1% overnight. Pretty clear apple needs to step up on this one.

Apple store employee told me if the Apple device you have is near the bottom of the list of Apple products eligible for an iOS update...don't update. iOS updates are for the newer products. That's why 6s, 6 and SE phones are suffering the battery problem and the newest phones aren't having the problem or very, very few. Apple wants more money and through updates actually makes older models obsolescent forcing customers to spend more on the newer phones.

Here are two links to useful information:

1.) http://gizmostorm.com/how-to-turn-off-ios-update-notification/

2.) https://ipsw.me/11.3.1

The first is how to turn off Apple update notifications and forced download ( for next time when you get a working phone and want to keep it that way). The second link is a list of iOS downgrade data links that may or may not work for reverting back to 11.3.1. However, due to Apple allegedly quit signing the data used to revert back to 11.3.1 those rollback links may not function. I used those links and the information to roll back my SE due to battery problems shortly after 11.4 was released. Good luck.

The only way, sad to say, that anything will be corrected is through the courts, which usually entails a class action suit. If one is not the first named complainant in the class action, anyone else who is a potential co-victim/customer of Apple's usually only receives a $5.00 off coupon on your next Apple product 😢. I enjoyed receiving the notices of class settlements informing me I get "Happy face emoji certificate" as a result of the class suit and the law firm bringing the suit makes millions in fees. Never join a class action unless you are the first named complainant. Refuse your participation settlement then you can sue separately and get something of value, if one has the finances to bring a suit, of course. Apple can't see a customer relations problem developing evidently.

This is exactly what I was trying to communicate to them...I simply want an opportunity to restore my phone to the previous version that has proven to be stable and effective but...

So, I've been going back-and-forth with the senior advisor and she insisted that I purchase a new battery despite facts pointing to 11.4 update as the culprit. She based her decision on the selective information that I sent her from the Battery Health tool...which I of course, rejected, because I feel the information actually supported our case more so.

My biggest concern is that Battery Health tool is currently a Beta version, basically untested to the point of being reliable. Secondly, it shows that even with the increase demand of 11.4, my battery is still almost 80% effective so it should not shut down after less than a minute of answering a phone call or even trying to get IMEI information. Something inherent in 11.4 is responsible for the drainage and shutdowns!

She completely ignored the top, right battery meter showing my battery at 100%, and ignored again the 78% battery capacity coming from this tool. Is it any surprise that she focused on the last paragraph to try and take money more money from loyal customers? My battery is "significantly degraded" at almost 80% effectiveness?? Really...ummmnn...what??? ...So Apple products are "significantly degraded" after 22% usage???

At any rate, good luck to everyone trying to get this sorted...I'm done with Apple and am going to try out my brother's Samsung S5 while I contemplate/research my next phone purchase.

Chatted with apple support over this...at first the advisor claimed she didn't hear about the battery drain problem with the ios 11.4 update and suggested i browsed over topics about batteries on the site. I told her no thanks and insisted they give me more concrete fix. I was then transferred to a senior advisor, who at least admitted this isn't a hardware issue. He told me to restore the phone and suggested maybe the initial 11.4 download was corrupted previously. And so i restored the phone for the third time and still the battery drains when idling. Terribly disappointed.

I now turn off wifi, location, cellular settings and etc and converted it into a dumb phone, to preserve the battery when not in use. Never been more frustrated with a phone.

I do believe we had almost the EXACT conversation. The only difference was mine went from 85% last week before the intall of their update, to 50%. And of the 5 different “advisors” and “senior advisors” I spoke with, they all said the exact same thing. It’s my battery being “significantly degraded”. And so I’m SUPPOSED to go to the Apple store at 5:40 tonight to get a new one. They caused this and the only way to fix it is to pay for a new battery. This is crazy.

Apple also removed my post because it wasn’t “helpful”.

I have tried every solution on here and things I found on the internet and nothing has worked. A new battery didn't solve anything. I went to the Apple store and they reset to factory condition and all that did was reinstall os11.4 with the same problem. Apple stopped signing 11.3 so there is no way to downgrade from 11.4. At home I have to keep the phone plugged into the charger and in the car make sure I have a charger with me. Very disappointed in Apple. Apple should realize they have a problem when people from the UK are posting on the internet with the same problem. It isn't just in the U.S.

I was going to stay out of this thread but now that I'm up and running on my brother's backup Samsung, I'll report and share my latest attempt to restore my expensive 6s paper weight.

A previous post mentioned 12.3 beta, so I googled and found that it was only available to subscribed developers at a cost of $99??? So I searched for "ios 12.3 free" and was taken to an article in which a shared linked to 12.3 beta was made available, with instructions.

Long story...short, don't bother! It's useless even with full erase....same issues, different day.
