iOS 11.4 Battery Drain!

Why and how do I fix the new issue with battery drain after updating to iOS 11.4? Before updating, might loose as much as 10% overnight on my 6s. After update it now drains completely from 100% over the course of the night to the point that it won’t start until I plug it in and let it charge a bit. iPad air2 drains much more as well, but not to the same extreme.

My iPhone 6S was loosing 30 - 40% overnight on standby after updating to 11.4. I tried virtuall all recommendations over a 4 day period. I finally gave up and rolled back to 11.3.1. Now only drains 0 to 1% overnight. Pretty clear apple needs to step up on this one.

Same here. Obviously tried soft reset etc. Battery drain is extreme on two 6S. On my work phone, an old iPhone 6 battery seems to be unaffected. But both my wife´s and my 6S are affected. Haven´t upgraded the kids 6S yet, awaiting a solution.

Woke up this morning, read some news and took a game of Clash Royal. From 100% to 80% before breakfast. Haven´t touched my phone since I arrived at work, it's now, around 11:00 on 51%. Will have to charge it before I go home.

I had the same battery drain problem and notified Apple CS within 2 days of 11.4 release. Apple CS states they had no battery problem reports with 11.4 Managed to downgrade to11.3.1 before Apple quit signing that version, thankfully. Called Apple CS and informed them of the battery life difference between 11.4 & 11.3.1 Also was able to eliminate persistent Apple update notices by installing an app to lock into 11.3.1 No more updates for me Apple, thank you

Update: The only thing that works for me and my spouse is to keep the WIFI connection on 2gz. As soon as we switch over to 5gz the battery drains immediately. This is so frustrating, as on 2gz we can't get any pages loaded and some of the apps don't work very well. The update must have had something to do with WIFI connection. If they don't get this fixed we are going to go berserk! I might go out and get some other phone like Samsung or something--but not Apple.

Since Apple stopped signing 11.3.1 previous version of software, it is no longer possible to downgrade. There is a small time frame that previous versions of software are available after the introduction of new software. Instructions and links to available previous software versions can be found by doing searches on the web on how to downgrade software. Several independent non-Apple sponsored techie sites are very helpful.

My intuition told me to wait and not to update but....

My phone shut down when my wife and I were trying to coordinate who would pick up our sick toddler from daycare...I was out at lunch and had to wait to get back to the office to call her from my desk phone because Apple bricked my phone. One moment 98% charged...seconds later, paper weight!

The worse part of this ordeal, for me so far, was when I couldn't transfer recent pics of my little girl to iCloud or iTunes to perform a full reset in hopes of resolving this issue. Did anyone else have this problem?

Gee, this couldn't be continued "battery manipulation" on older iPhones, after they apologized and promised never do it again...right?

Thanks for posting this...so far my phone has stayed up long enough for me to reboot the phone (leave it off for at least one minute).

Powered it back on and went straight to ESPN and was able to browse normally...dangit, Astros are already down 5-3, where as before it would immediately shut down. Opened up a few more tabs and still no shut down.

Battery went from 100% to 96% in a span of 8mins...

Add me to this list of iPhone 6S users who are experiencing rapid battery drain as a result of Apple's software upgrades. They say it is not intentional but looking at this growing list of disgruntled iPhone owners I would say that just as despicable as an intention to force us to lay out our hard earned cash on a newer generation of iPhone are the crickets from Apple support as they are silent to this thread.

If I do end up upgrading to a new phone it will not be an Apple, this is disgraceful.

I just got off the phone with Apple support. I can't go half a day without charging, even on low power mode.

Essentially, we are screwed. Apple is not going to allow us to revert to the prior IOS, and they're not going to release an update until fall. I was given a checklist of tasks to perform to preserve battery life, but I had already performed them all, to no avail. The technician explained that "The IOS 11.4 demands a lot more from the iPhone 6 system so the battery will drain far more quickly." He also justified Apples decision to prevent us from reinstalling the prior IOS thusly: "Apple has created a system where we want our customers moving forward and not going a step back."

Hella thanks, buddy. If there was a middle finger emoji, I would be using it right now to Apple. In the meantime, this will have to do: 💩

F**king incredible. I just finished paying off my phone. Now it is usable for my job, no job, no money. And I have no other phone or landline. what th heck am I supposed to do Now?? After more than thirty years of buying Apple products, I’m going to have to steer clear. Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave right now. I hope this tanks their stock. I have no money for this. Crying.

Sorry buddy Apple don’t have perfect answer for this fix....May be in future they can get some but for short term u can switch to android.

Having same problem, spoke to customer service but they helpless after trying written trouble shooting with them to read.

Taken to Apple authorised Center here in Auckland,Newzealand to change the battery but after testing battery those good people suggested they can change the battery for 29 rather than 79 but changing battery won’t fix this Drain issue as ur battery health is un good state, they are also helpless to fix this issue n suggested to wait for new bug fix update from Apple.

NOW TAKE UR DECISION WHAT U WANT TO DO WITH UR EXPENSIVE PHONE.

The problem is not the battery...Apple already admitted this; the problem they proudly proclaim, now, is that 14.1 is very taxing on older batteries. My battery was replaced 7 months ago and everything was fine until the last update which was supposed to fix camera issues, etc. Now, my phone shuts down when I answer a phone call after a minute or so...it would then display the recharge icon but when I plug it in it starts up and shows I still have 94%.

If you google iPhone intermittent shutdowns, you'll get info in which previous iPhones that were plagued with the same issue could only be fixed with an updated firmware, etc...in these cases it had nothing to do with the battery which Apple also claimed was the culprit.

I was just on the phone with a "senior advisor" and they continue to proclaim that 11.4 is the immaculate cure-all and end-all to iPhone illnesses! They absolutely refuse to acknowledge that there is an issue here that adversely affects our everyday life.

She was still trying to sell me a battery at a reduced price even after I informed her it was replaced recently! She followed script no matter how much facts I presented to her. Apple simply does not care!!!

It has been over a month since I did the upgrade. I have tried every fix on this site and some I found on the internet and nothing has worked. I leave my phone plugged in at home because it drains so fast. Yesterday I went out for an hour and left with a 100% charge. I did not use the phone while I was out and came back with 45%. I have been to the Apple store for help and their solution was saying they could sell me an iPhone8. I am not replacing one headache for another. They say os12 is coming out this hear. How can I trust doing another Apple update after the mess they have made with this one and they don't seem to care. Very disappointed in Apple.
