Watch OS 4.3.1 battery drain

I am experiencing massive battery issues after updating my Apple Watch (1st gen) to os 4.3.1

Before the update it would last for a full day with some charge (~20%) left in the evening. Now, after the update the battery is completely drained after 4 hours from disconnecting it from the charger, making the watch completely unusable.

Is there a way to downgrade the software, so I can use it back again? Such a decrease in battery performance the next day after the update cannot be a coincidence, clearly something is wrong with the new software.

I have followed all the steps mentioned here, on top of that I’ve removed all apps from my watch. This resulted in a small increase in battery life, however the issue remains - the battery won’t last through a long day.

I get a feeling that Apple is simply trying to force people to replace their watches by making them unusable through software updates.

Also a lesson for me not to install updates without checking online forums first.

Update to my issues. I went to the apple store and they ran diagnostics on my watch. Battery shows it is fine. No hardware or software issues found. The did a factory reset, but unfortunately it still has the latest iOS 4.3.1. This morning same issue battery latest all but 5 hours. This is with only the factory loaded apps. I did not add any apps to the watch at all. They want me to pay $229.00 to send it out since it is out of warranty. Come on Apple you broke my watch and now you want me to pay to fix it. This is outrageous. Apple please fix your update.

The huge majority of users are not finding problems so it is more likely your upgrade had a problem, or you have a stuck app eating battery. You don't need to downgrade (difficult or impossible) to fix this. Series 1 is also getting older so it is also possible your watch has a battery issue which has made itself visible now by coincidence

Try a forced reset (Press and hold both buttons until the watch starts to reboot).

Try unpairing and re-pairing which will force all the software to be refreshed in the watch

Contact Apple Support if still unresolved, and arrange to get the hardware checked at a Genius Bar appointment or Apple Service Center

I am having massive battery issues also. The only notifications enabled are text msg and heart rate. It’s not set to auto cone on with raising my arm. Prior to the update I could get 48 hours, now I may get 12. I have only 2 heart apps installed and nothing else. I don’t use photos or anything. Very disappointed in this update.

I did the hard reset and noticed no change. Then did the restore from backup and hard reset and saw a minor improvement but battery life is down st least 25% from what it was previously. This makes the watch almost worthless as iit can die during the day with very little useage. We really need a fix or someway to go back to old build. This one *****.

I’m having the same issue. Watch series 1 and OS 4.3.1 has wrecked my battery life. Even loses about 30% when I’m wearing it and sleeping with no motion tracking or notifications.

Used to get home from work with about 40% left but since 4.3.1 the battery is dead about 2 hours before I go home.

Apple clearly hasn’t tested this software adequately. Again.

Same problem here. Apple watch series 3 used to last me 2 days, not it only has 25% charge left after 1 day. Big drop in battery life after watchOS 4.3.1 update on my 42mm Apple Watch. My wife has the 38mm series 3 and her issues are even worse. He watch won't charge at all after the update, the charge indicator flips back and forth from charging to not charging every 2 seconds.

I am also having this issue after upgrading to 4.3.1. My watch used to last all day and night and I would charge it in the morning. since the update it dies during the night. this is completely unacceptable, I cannot believe that this update went out untested like this. It doesn't matter that my watch is a series 1, it worked fine a couple of weeks ago and then I upgraded and instantly not so fine.

Because the nonexistent battery life (even after hard reboot and restore) made the watch basically worthless (less than 8 hours with extremely limited use vs 36 hours with moderate use) I decided to do a complete restore to new and reinstall. This appears to have done the trick. With very limited use (no notifications, no music, no raise to see time, low screen display, etc) I got 24 hours of use with about 20% battery remaining after the rebuild. Will reenable limited notifications and see what happens.

Doing an update should not require that item be restored to original configuration and everything reinstalled. But at least now it’s usable.

I am having similar battery issue. Before the update my watch’s battery would last for 36 hours. Now it just turns off after around 14 hours. The battery percentage looks wrong too. I noticed the watch to be around 50-60 percent battery and it turned off. I put into charging and in 40 minutes it was fully charged. Which was fast compared to normal. Then next time when battery was about 70 percent after around again 14 hours, it turned off again. Moreover, it is not going into reserve mode too. This update has major battery issues. You guys should fix it.
