Why is a new line started randomly while typing?

I have been having this problem for a while and doing a search both here and on google has not helped me find anyone else with this issue.

I will be typing on my phone, in any application or text message, and randomly the text will start on a new line with a capital letter. There appears to be no rhyme or reason as to why it is doing this. It happens without punctuation or even when I'm using letters that are not near the return button. Example -

I'm trying to type: Hi what are you doing today

and it comes out -

Hi what are

You doing

Today

iPhone 6s, iOS 11.3.1

Hello, sjg13.

Thank you for giving us an update and we know how you feel about the battery. Battery life depends on the speed of how fast it goes down which can vary from person to person based on how much or how little a device is used, how often or less often it is charged, settings, applications and other factors. You can also check out these articles for more information about battery life and ways to help preserve it:

Updates from Apple contain fixes for bugs. If the issue isn't resolved by this update, then the problem may lie somewhere in the system software. If that's the case, I would start by trying to reinstall the software without erasing data. Use this link as a reference: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Keep us updated and we'll go from there.

Cheers!

Hello, sjg13.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It's my understanding that your keyboard on your iPhone is randomly creating a line whenever you're typing. I have some suggestions that may help. I would update to the latest iOS 11.4 if you haven't done so already: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Are you using any third-party keyboards? If so, try removing them and use the default keyboard. This depends on your location, for example, the default for the U.S., is English (United States).

If none of these steps have help, use this article as a reference and reinstall the iOS: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch When doing this step just make sure that you choose "Update" in step 4 to reinstall.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!
