iOS 11.4 battery drain

Sadly I think Apple will stay silent on this matter to avoid liability and hope the announcement of iOS 12 will make everyone forget the problems.

I have been using Apple products since 1992 but it is a very different company now. Faceless, despite the surface marketing image, comes to mind.

I have a 6 month old IPhone 8 and since the 11.4 iOS upgrade the phone won’t last from 8am to 5pm ... thanks for the paperweight! Apple users should have the option to rollback if the upgrade doesn’t meet satisfactory levels... this is a critical bug and should have been evaluated in the testing of all devices and software deployment. It’s not rocket science guys... you geeks earn the big money... so hurry up and release a patch to fix this soon.

Same issue here. My 6s is 2 years old and now drains completely in less than a day with very little usage. Can't be good for the battery. If the battery was good, it won't be for long.

Not sure it's worth getting Apple to replace the battery for $29 if the iOS is just going to drain it anyway.

yes has same problem. very sad battery drain problem become worse every update and it is the worst in this 11.4 ... please fix it asap. now scare of any future update from apple and need to becareful before update. such a simple thing Apple also cannot provide. ( sad , dissappointed and angry).

I, too, am shocked that Apple has not released a fix for this WIDESPREAD problem or even acknowledged it. They unsigned 11.3.1 so users can't even install that anymore. I'm saddened to say that Apple may have lost its way.

If that’s the case then why is my SE draining when I don’t use Bluetooth or have a car? Keep cellular off unless I really need it, have never had this problem before last update. I can have my phone off, no cell, no WiFi assist, as many background apps as possible turned off, only use the phone to make calls and quick texts. It drains completely overnigh, without having used the phone even. Have on battery saving mode, battery health is 100%.

My mini 4 is only getting about 4 hours before the low battery warning pops up. That never happened before, always a good 8+ hours before needing charging.

I wish that was an option for me and my SE. have very limited data to keep the monthly phone bill down unfortunately. And it can’t help my iPad mini 4, that’s WiFi only and yes, has the battery drain post update

Hi. I was in no way trying to be critical, it was a question. I really wish it was a concrete reason! Then again, if it was? Something like Bluetooth? That might help narrow down where the update problem is.

i do not use my phone as a hotspot. Honestly, I don’t know how. I have phone set to do iCloud backups only when the phone is off, locked and charging. I do try to do a physical backup to iTunes connected to my computer every couple of months. calendar isn’t synched. I don’t use the phone as an alarm. I don’t use it as a music player and I own nothing Bluetooth right now. And that w just your garden variety Bluetooth earpiece so I could talk and walk if my hands were full. But that bit the dust and haven’t replaced it.

Honestly there are days when the phone gets no use at all!

I still think that’s a terrible fix. My son’s gaming data would be lost completely and that is not okay. And his phone, same as mine, a 6s is less than a year old brand new out of the box. It’s why we back up our back ups. So THAT never has to happen. I’d be okay but I don’t Minecraft.

Pinkapplemac - you should be able to use iCloud backup to backup all gaming data from your games that support it. For gaming companies that don't support backing up the game settings - they are kept with the gaming companies servers. You can contact them and let them know you are doing a data reset on the phone and they can reconnect your son's phone with the game data on the gaming site, after the restore. Usually they will ask for a screen shot of the game and your SN / IMEI number of your phone, and the player's email address and handle. I've had to do this numerous times over the last 8 years as most of my kid's games settings are stored on the gaming companies hosts.

Also - be weary of iTunes backups - don't trust them - there's no way to verify integrity of backups until you try and restore. iCloud backup is more reliable. In my case iCloud backup was not working because of other issues - I've had this iPhone 6s Plus for almost 4 years - its been through dozens of iOS upgrades, and over the years. In my case I used a third party utility to get all my photos and videos off the phone.

FYi I tried all the suggestions relating to 2.4 wifi and it didn't work for me.

Officially there is NOT going to be any bug fix for this - Apple's corporate policy is that if you reset your device to factory settings and it solves the problem - there's no bug to fix. This came directly from the Genius Bar at my local Apple store.

I’ve used iTunes for a restore and iCloud. Both worked okay.

Thanks for the update. I'm not going to install it until I hear someone say it fixed the battery drain problem. I don't want more problems than it already has. I did read that this is the last update Apple will do before os12 comes out. Hopefully 11.4.1 fixes the battery.

Thanks for your information, but I read it too late. I upgraded from 11.4 just now. Hope it didn't make the problem worse... What in the world is Apple thinking these days? No wonder they are losing customers every day.

If you've changed it then bring it back to where you changed it.

I think we should ask ckuan about everything regarding battery , since all are wrong about battery drainage problem!
