High Sierra 10.13.5 video playback issues

Dear ladies and gentleman,

After the last update of High Sierra, I have a major issue with my 2017 MacBook Pro. As soon as I start a video in safari, or one of my purchased movies in iTunes, the system becomes choppy.

The iTunes movies don't play at all and in videos in Safari, becomes choppy. The mouse and my keystrokes and the video playing halt for a moment before continuing briefly, before doing it again, and so on.

If I want to play Netflix in Safari I get error code: S7363-1260-FFFFD089

If I play Netflix in Google chrome, it works however.

These are the things I have done so far, but to no avail:

-Chatted with Apple support and followed their instructions, but they could not solve the problem unfortunately

-Clean install of MacOS 10.13.5

-Added another user, but the issue remains

-Started up in safe mode and checked activity monitor, but there was nothing special to see

-Emptied the cache in safari (developer tools)

-Change the user agent in developer tools in safari

I probably did a few more things to try to solve the problem, but I can't remember them at this moment.

Does anyone have the same issues? Was somebody able to solve it?

Thanks so much for your help!

The issue is since jun 07 2018 when 2018-003 was released with video driver update faults.

Why is Apple unable to resolve the problem?

Not good isn't?

Hurry up please.

No solution? What do you think? Difficult isn't.

I've got a temporary solution. so I realized when I put my laptop on sleep for a very long time, id say 3 or 4 hrs, I would open it again and I could watch Netflix and its not giving me any errors but when I shut it down and turn it on again, I can't watch Netflix again and giving me the same errors as before 😟 I do not want a temporary solution but a permanent one!!! Please Apple, fix this soon!

It truly is sad. There is something fundamentally wrong with the computer if videos won’t play well in iTunes. Of course Firefox could be a good temporary bandaid, but one’d expect a high end device to be able to play videos at least. Funny thing is, this all happened to me after my keyboard started acting up, so I got it replaced under their new keyboard replacement program. The store that replaced my keyboard “accidentally” tore an important cable, and therefore the whole logic board, Touch ID, battery, SSD, etc. all had to be replaced. The computer was flashed with high Sierra IN STORE. It literally came back to me unable to play videos right out of the store, as an essentially brand new device!!

HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is the standard to protect video piracy. Every time HD content goes from one component to another it is encrypted and decrypted. Safari and iTunes do it this process in the hardware itself while for example Firefox and Chrome use software. It is my theory that Apple has or is using non compatible components and fixed the issue trough PRAM code (non volatile RAM). If for some reason PRAM is reset automatically or because PRAM is reset to solve another issue, the fix is lost resulting in iTunes or Safari no being able to play back HD content entirely or with issues like choppiness. No one except Apple can fix the issue in my opinion. I believe Apple has decided to take the cost to deceive some customers rather than taking the cost to resolve the issue properly.

Ok I just got off the phone with Apple support. After taking a look at my video and captured diagnostic data, the engineers determined that it was a hardware problem that can’t be diagnosed by the Genius Bar. So they’re recommending me to get it fixed at a local store. This doesn’t bode well for all of you who have the issue!!! Although i’m skeptical, I don’t have much choice besides to get the computer “fixed.”

Typical a dumb solution.

Get new hardware. YEAH!!!

Ok do it. Do a clean install with all the updates.

YEAH do a pram reset. et voila get new hardware.

Ok don't

Apple support does NOT understand a wrong 2018-003 release.

Earlier I said that i'am going to delete all my Apple ID's.

Hmm I wait a bit but not much longer.

The High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection is a possibility.

Thanks Astelin55.

I was certain to ask the Apple rep if it was a firmware issue as opposed to hardware or software (OS) and they said the engineers couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary from the capture data, therefore meaning it has to be hardware. I’m as disappointed as you are! Seeing as even 2018 models can have the same problem, I have to wonder if I will get another Apple product as well!

Also I talked to support about the issue for a long time a few day's ago.

I said: read this forum part.

No we listen only to individuals.

Also said "video runs for 2 sec and 1/10 sec freeze".

They don't trust me and asked to capture video of this.

The F word idiots!

Incompetent.

At the end of this week its over and done.

No Apple for me anymore.

Selling 2 MBP and 2 iPhones.

YEAH $6000,

And will buy Samsung and other hardware.

So.
