High Sierra 10.13.5 video playback issues

Dear ladies and gentleman,

After the last update of High Sierra, I have a major issue with my 2017 MacBook Pro. As soon as I start a video in safari, or one of my purchased movies in iTunes, the system becomes choppy.

The iTunes movies don't play at all and in videos in Safari, becomes choppy. The mouse and my keystrokes and the video playing halt for a moment before continuing briefly, before doing it again, and so on.

If I want to play Netflix in Safari I get error code: S7363-1260-FFFFD089

If I play Netflix in Google chrome, it works however.

These are the things I have done so far, but to no avail:

-Chatted with Apple support and followed their instructions, but they could not solve the problem unfortunately

-Clean install of MacOS 10.13.5

-Added another user, but the issue remains

-Started up in safe mode and checked activity monitor, but there was nothing special to see

-Emptied the cache in safari (developer tools)

-Change the user agent in developer tools in safari

I probably did a few more things to try to solve the problem, but I can't remember them at this moment.

Does anyone have the same issues? Was somebody able to solve it?

Thanks so much for your help!

**HDCP Errors iTunes\Safari fix**

Symptoms:

*You had to reset the PRAM on your Mac for whatever reason

*iTunes movies won't play. You either get a black playback window or an error related to HDCP.

*Hulu and Netflix movies won't play within the Safari browser.

*YouTube is unaffected by this.

*Hulu and Netflix still play within Chrome web browser.

*Windows 10 (VM nor Bootcamp) are unaffected by this bug

Fix (workaround):

*Boot into Recovery Mode on your Mac (command+R)

*Open terminal and type in the command EXACTLY as written:

nvram 8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c:epid_provisioned=%01%00%00%00

and then press RETURN

It will go back to the prompt. Type reboot and RETURN.

Use this information at your own risk. If this sort of thing makes you uncomfortable, perhaps you should contact Apple support directly and have them walk you through this.

If you have to reset your PRAM again for any reason, this will have to be done again in order to restore functionality. Apple is aware of this and will likely provide some sort of update to perminantly fix this.

This is truly a workaround, not a fix. But it should provide you a fully functional Mac in the mean time

If this does not work for you. Please try this again and triple check what you have typed. This command is case sensitive and it will NOT throw up an error or success message to let you know the result.

Good luck and good day.

Hmm yeah they force you to update haha.

Already tested the issue and is the same for Sierra, H Sierra.

2 sec video and 1/10 sec system freeze for streaming video and Itunes video.

A few streams report:

The media playback was aborted due to a corruption problem or because the media used features your browser did not support. (earlier post).

Test Itunes video running Trailer.

I am having the same problem. and now that I think about it, it happened right after I did the NVRAM reset, like how the previous comments have stated. I contacted apple, and did not resolve it. This happened to websites that are streaming tv shows and movies, for example for Netflix, I could only play the trailers but not the actual episode. Netflix, and Amazon video works fine with chrome and Opera.

Has anyone solved this problem? I love using Safari because of the 1080p videos 😟 Apple need to resolve this!

10.13.6?

Try this commands in the Terminal

It seems that the trick only works for Mojave, but these commands was worked for me when I was in 10.13.5

nvram -xp

nvram -c

nvram -xp

sudo shutdown -r now

The last command will be restart your Mac, after that try to play movies. This could work because the reset of Nvram with the Keys in the Start of the Mac is different to the reset in Terminal.

No, there isn’t a Safari problem because if you try to watch a Movie on iTunes the screen will be turn black and the mouse will be choppy. If you try to see movie trailers in iTunes the video can be watched but the mouse will be choppy too. This is a bad line in the Nvram settings and is because the latest security patch from Apple is wrong for nvram reset

Ok everyone,

Lets recap.

Nothing to with Safari. Also problem with version 12.01

Nothing to do with extensions.

Nothing to do with Netflix help solutions.

Nothing to do with version Sierra, H Sierra and Mojave.

What is going on!!!

Security update 2018-003 writes new video drivers in the nvram chip.

With an error.

So reinstalling, restore and so on all versions does not resolve.

2018-004 update did resolve my situation but caused a subtle true color change, so i did nvram reset.

By the way, the subtle true color change is also visible using W10 bootcamp and color lcd from mac.

The color lcd icc is always downloaded from chip during clean install macOS.

The nvram reset resets all to default settings but NOT the new video driver settings.

Some temp sleep etc using H Sierra and Mojave is fine.

I talked to Apple 30 min. about this.

They have to make new video drivers, eventually a new firmware.

So hopefully solved releasing 2018-005

I have the same problem, exactly as described above. Funny thing is, I didn't have it before (somehow skipped 10.13.5 and 10.13.6 because I upgraded to the Mojave developer beta around 10.13.4). Then, I got the keyboard on my MacBook Pro 2016 replaced because of keyboard issues. The Apple Store accidentally tore one of the cables in the laptop, so they had to replace all the internals, including the SSD, so they flashed it with a fresh copy of 10.13.6. Lo and behold, that fresh copy of 10.13.6 on a laptop with brand new internals couldn't play any Netflix because of error S7363-1260-FFFFD089. All the other symptoms as described above also exist, including iTunes choppiness, etc.

Tried everything as listed above, including reinstalling Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave, the sleep trick, Safari developer mode, etc. Absolutely nothing works. Incredibly frustrating when you consider that Apple software and hardware are supposed to "just work" together! My system feels like a Hackintosh, the software is so unpolished. Really hope they fix it soon!!

For me was magically fixed after a couple of days, but I think that was because I changed the color administration in AMD Settings for Windows (very crazy).

ONLY FOR MAC WITH DISCRETE GPU

Try this:

Install Windows 10 using Bootcamp.

Update all drivers using Apple Software Update for Windows, then restart your computer.

In Windows, do right click on the Desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings.

Screen Option (Top Right)

Color Option (Top Right)

And disable Automatic Color Temperature.

Since I was do these steps, my MacBook Pro 15” 2017 never had again the issue. (I think if I reset the nvram will be back again, but I will not reset it anymore hehe)

Try this and tell me if works for you.

I have done an internet recovery. This type of recovery should according to Apple download and install the original version that came with the computer. In my case it was 10.13.3. However it installed 10.13.5 instead. The problem remained. I updated to 10.13.6 and to Mojave public beta. The problem was still there. I recovered my data trough migration assistant. Despite some errors warnings my account was recovered and the problem magically disappeared. I have no clue what was changed. The root cause seems to me has to do with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) that encrypts and decrypts HD content between every component.

I'm having the exact same issue as well and it is driving me insane! (High Sierra 10.13.6)

Started after I performed a PRAM reset.

Netflix, Amazon prime and iTunes movies do not work. watching video on some websites cause the mouse to lag and skip across the screen every few seconds.

The sleep trick did fix it for a while but now it has come back randomly.

hope they fix this soon as it is outrageous that a £1000 laptop cannot play iTunes movies! *sigh*
