CarPlay problems in 2019 Subaru Ascent

Hi!

I'm using an iPhoneX running iOS 11.4 and I have a brand-spanking-new 2019 Subaru Ascent. I got the car Saturday and CarPlay worked fine until around Wednesday - I was able to make and receive phone calls without problems. For the past three days I've been having a problem: there is no audio with phone calls. I can make or receive a call using CarPlay, but no audio is passed between me and the other party at all. If I unplug the (Apple, not third party) USB cable during one of the soundless calls, I can continue the call on the handset without issue. Podcasts, Music, Maps, etc all work fine via CarPlay.

I have tried: rebooting the phone, rebooting the car, rebooting the phone and the car, going into the iOS carplay settings and having it "forget" my Ascent before reconnecting after rebooting the phone and the car. I'm at a loss. Any thoughts?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Hillary Israeli.
If I understand your post correctly, CarPlay connects but there is no sound during phone calls but the sound works normally for other functions with your iPhone. I'd like to help.
Try these steps:

Get help

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

1. Make sure siri is turned on - yes, obviously siri is turned on, because as I mentioned before, " Podcasts, Music, Maps, etc all work fine via CarPlay." I did not specifically state it, but all of them are accessible via Siri. I can tell Siri to play music, etc. No problems.

2. Restart your phone and your car - As I previously mentioned, "I have tried: rebooting the phone, rebooting the car, rebooting the phone and the car, going into the iOS carplay settings and having it "forget" my Ascent before reconnecting after rebooting the phone and the car."

3. If possible, use a different USB port - I didn't mention it but yes, I've used two different ports.

4. Try a different lightning cable - also didn't mention it, but yes - already used two different cables. Both are apple cables.

5. Update ios - as mentioned before, "I'm using an iPhoneX running iOS 11.4," so it cannot be updated at this time. it's already up to date.

6. Check your manual/install firmware updates - this is as mentioned before a new Subaru Ascent. It has just been released and I've been assured there are no firmware updates my car needs at this time.

I read the article you referenced prior to posting.

Any other ideas?
