homepod with itunes match

I don’t have Apple Music (as part of my cellular contract I get Spotify premium free so can’t see the point on Apple Music) but I do have iTunes Match turned on aswell as iCloud music library. I am interested in getting a HomePod. Can I access my iTunes Match ‘matched’ library on HomePod? I have read a few things and it sounds like I can but I did read that unless you subscribe to Apple Music you cannot tell the HomePod (Siri) to play specific playlists as it does not work. Can anyone confirm this ?

Many thanks, Wayne

I am using a pair of Home Pods with iTunes Match, without Apple Music, and it is working well.

Because iTunes Match has been enabled on the iPhone, that I used to set up the home pods, the iCloud music library is available on the home pods. I just have to say "Hey Siri, play my playlist ..." and Siri will start the music.
