iTunes not updating Playcount

Sometime in the past week my iTunes decided to stop updating play count (I'm assuming it is something that was updated in the MacOS 10.13.6/iTunes 12.8.0 update). I've searched through previous posts and this seems to have happened to other people in the past.

I've tried turning on and off crossfade, I've logged out of my iTunes account, and deauthorized my computer (all things suggested in previous threads) with no luck.

Has anyone else come across this with this update? If so, anything work to fix it?

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

I just discovered that when I stream to my HomePod or Apple TV (most of the time I stream to my HomePod) the play count doesn't increment, but if I just play iTunes through my iMac speakers it does increment. This behavior is new with the last update since I've been streaming to my HomePod for a while now.

Looks like it is a deficiency, or bug, with AirPlay 2.

Hey All,

Playing iTunes on my MACBOOK AIR, and it updates play count and last played for every other song. If I use my iPhone X, it usually updates by the next day. If I play music on my IPAD, it might update within a week or so. I love the sound of the HomePod, but I am little OCD when it comes to my play counts and last played. Hopefully this bug will be fixed sooner than later.

I just noticed today that iTunes 12.8.0.150 is not updating my play count or last played date when playing iTunes directly from my MacBook Pro. I am using an Airplay speaker rather than the computer's speakers but that's never caused this issue in the past. Strangely, on one album I played, the play count and date DID update but only on 2 of the 12 songs. VERY odd and definitely a "bug".

The next time I used iTunes to play songs, the date played and play count was updated on each and every song played. Not sure whether just quitting and relaunching iTunes fixed it or restarting the MacBook Pro did the trick. None-the-less, it's "buggy" for some reason. I am on High Sierra 10.13.6.

This is happening to be me, too. I can even play from the AppleTV “Computers” application, and the play counts will update.

I play 99% of my music on my iPhone. And it's not updating playcount in iTunes. It usually takes about 24 hours to update. But now it's not updating, even beyond the usual 24 hours.

Why would an IOS update fix this? The playcount not updating is an iTunes problem. So I am hoping that the problem will be fixed when we get iTunes 12.9 next week.

It started this morning when I did the Airplay 2 firmware update for my Airport Express. It was fine yesterday. So... correlation. IMO.

For me, it fixed the update play count issue but not the edit artwork issue. To add or change artwork I need to unclick the Airplay 2 speaker in iTunes.

I've read that Mohave is out, but my Software Update doesn't show it as an option yet. (My iMac is 2013, so it should be compatible). I had updates for Xcode and Pages and Keynote Sunday.
