mac mail not working with Spectrum

I am running high sierra V 10.13.5 on an imac. Since spectrum took over Time Warner Cable I have had intermittent problems sending emails. Now nobody receives my mail even though it shows up in my sent folder. The only thing I can see in settings is the incoming user name has the first letter lower case and the outgoing is upper case. Other than that, I can see nothing...the settings are all correct. Apple support today told me there was an email that said Spectrum no longer supports mac mail, but my ipad works fine. I run a home business, so I have years and years of emails in macmail...Any suggestions?

Balderdash!

You are having success with your iPad (you said?)

OK. I just tested one of my roadrunner accounts from Thunderbird

  • sent to a YahooMail account
  • sent to "self" = same account as sending from
  • sent to another roadrunner account

ALL went to Sent folder with no alerts

ALL FAILED to arrive in TBird

I still cannot find ANY reporting that says Spectrum no longer supports email clients

I searched Spectrum.com for "mail"

It seems to me that they may be giving you the cold shoulder because they have screwed the pooch and do not want to admit it

I will call Spectrum myself in a minute

Test the FWDing of SpectrumMail to Gmail before the tech arrives?

If you are lucky, FWDing may not have the same problem as SENDing (I would not hold my breath though)

See if this helps...

CHANGE Default SENDING account in Mac Mail

  1. Go to menu Mail > Preferences
  2. Click on “Composing”
  3. Select the account you would like as default under “Send new messages from:” (or Send new mail from:) – this is under “Addressing:”)
  4. Close the preferences window.

If your "senior tech" was anything like MINE, they are not all that senior

She actually told me what they are "allowed" to say and do.

  • check port numbers
  • refer to developer of app (email client)

She could not - or would not - admit that the only place that a change could have occurred was at the roadrunner server end

Since Spectrum seems unwilling or unable to get to the bottom of this - it is gonna be up to a VERY senior Apple engineer to get to the bottom of this

I have actually spoken with a senior ENGINEER on 3 occasions in all my years of Mac use

The Apple engineer can pull "corporate" strings to get this figured out

Did Apple Support give you a trouble ticket number?

Well, we have an answer from Apple Senior Support:

Patrick

I am sorry to say that we are no longer able to support Spectrum with MacMail. My best recommendations here Marcia is to contact Spectrum for assistance with this.

Patrick

As much as we would like to help this is not without our scope and you will need to reach out to the email service provider.

Patrick

within*

Cahvah

YIKES!!!

My hope was that Apple could do something to put some pressure on Spectrum

Patrick

I wish I had a better answer for you here but they should be able to provide you more details.

Patrick

I wish we had that capability but it would be based on their server capabilities.

Cahvah

Well!!! I guess that explains it!

so much for Mac Mail...

very disappointing

Patrick

I’m not certain why they have chosen to not update their servers to work within MacMail Marcia but I can assure you this was not a choice Apple has made.

Patrick

Of course, I am sorry you are being affected by this. They may have some internal feedback service within their company so I would recommend seeing if they have a way to escalate it up within Spectrum. I am sure if enough customers happen to mention this with them they will make changes.

Just got off the phone with "senior technical support" in my area. Response is, "I'm sorry, we don't support any 3rd party clients". This is ridiculous. I'm going to try to set up another account in Mac Mail. I can't delete the current one because it will be a major hassle to try to save all my earlier customer emails. I'm also going to contact Airmail3 support. I'm furious!

I think that we may have discovered a "glitch or two" - and our calls may have spurred some action behind the Wizard of Oz curtain

The "test" messages I sent earlier have come in

The timestamps are a little confused

I'm gonna give you credit with lighting the fire earlier 😉

Test2 just now to Yahoo account arrived almost instantaneously

Let's stick a fork in it (and knock on wood that it stays fixed) 😀
