HomePod hums

My HomePod hums while it is paused or while I talk with Siri. It's not any loud but it's not so quiet even. I'd like to know if it is normal (some audio speakers produce some similar hum noise) or if it is a hardware problem.

It starts right when you ask Siri for anything for the first time after a longer time (8 minutes +) and stops after 8 minutes again. I don't speak about any loud and paused AirPlay stream which may cause that or anything.

It's also present during reset. Again, it starts with Siri saying "Your HomePod is about to reset…". So basically it is present permanently starting with any action (Siri request or pressing play) and ends after 8 minutes which may be some deeper stand-by mode maybe?

That doesn't seem right. Mine is totally silent when not playing anything. Perhaps you should ask for a warranty exchange.

I'm on the latest firmware too. Two HomePods, both silent when not in use, and in my bedroom too. I live on a busy road, but it still gets quiet at night and I would notice.

Thank you, it's important to me to know how HomePods of other people behave since I have only this one. And yes, it doesn't seem right at all.… Especially when I think of those reporters who tested HomePod in the perfectly queit room after keynote.

Since I am very sensitive to this kind of noises in my apartment I would swear that it wasn't there when I bought it. But I can't be 100% sure, right? Also when I first noticed it, it was some time after the 11.4.1 firmware update. Which is also one of the reasons why I ask. It could be just a software bug… But it's probably not that case.

Indeed, I'm sure this would have been noticed. How long have you had it? Has it been that way since the beginning?

OK, thank you! You really helped me. I'll take it to Apple and hopefully they will replace it for a new one. This device is amazing and I'd really like to enjoy it without any troubles again.
