Mail notification WatchOS 5

Since upgrading my iPhone X to iOS 12 and my watch series 2 to WatchOS 5 I am not getting email notifications on my watch. It appears VIP email notifications work. I've tried everything I can think of.

Oh, in case the original post I referenced was missed, for those who are having this issue (apparently after upgrading to WatchOS 5), go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > New Mail > Vibration (at top of screen - I had to scroll up) > change from “None (Default)” to your preferred option. This worked for me and my watch started vibrating again with mail notifications.

I have the exact same issue. I get a ping tone but no haptic feedback. Contacted Apple Support and they had me wipe my phone and watch. I ended up losing photos and other information so I highly advise that you don't listen to them if they suggest you do that. It also didn't fix the problem. It is clearly a bug in WatchOS 5. The support rep also recommended I have the watch hardware checked out. Not going to do it since everything worked fine in OS 4. It's a bug and Apple needs to inform their support reps and get it fixed.

Mike, an email with your question just came through to my watch!!!!!!!! Haptic notification, so exciting!!! (Sign of how boring my life is?)

I upgraded to 5.0.1, left it on mirror. Then another poster said s/he tried switching back to custom, so I tried that this morning. It still really is mirror, but I've got custom checked, and the haptic notification came through. I think you just need to keep flipping switches until it works for you, then don't touch anything.

I have the same problem on Xs and Series 4.

Something funny this morning, I had the watch on my wrist (connected to the home wifi) and the phone was stil on airplane mode from the night and I Felt my wrist vibrate, I look up to see who send me an iMessage, but it was not, it was a mail ! 2 minutes later, it was another mail !

So the problem is when the Watch is connected to the phone. When she's indépendant (WiFi or Cellular) it works ...

Hello,

I think I am seeing option for favourite mailboxes because I have multiple email accounts and multiple folders... So my fix does not probably apply to everyone 😕. But you can probably get the option If you add mailboxes through mail app.

However, it is possible we had different issues totally. I just deducted my watch problems were originated from my iPhone settings cause I didn't get any vibration alert when I was testing mail notifications using my iPhone only. After fixing favourite mailbox setting my email notifications were working on my iPhone also. And for the record I had only problems with my email notifications with my watch and they started after iOS 12 update. Hopefully you will found solution for your problems santafeNM 😐

Here's my experience, just to keep things confusing for everyone:

After upgrading my Series 1 Watch to watchOS 5 and my iPhone 8 to iOS 12, I had this problem: Arriving emails would make my Watch vibrate, as expected, and if I immediately raised my wrist, the arriving email would open on the Watch screen. But if I didn't look at the Watch immediately, the notifications didn't stick. In other words, I'd feel my Watch vibrate and I'd make a mental note to check it later. But a few minutes later, when I'd look at the Watch, there would be no indication of a notification — no red dot, and nothing listed when I swiped down to check the Notification screen. This only happened with email. All other notifications appeared to be working as normal on the Watch.

After erasing my iPhone and setting it up from Recovery Mode as a new phone and setting up the Watch as new: Notifications for emails sent to my iCloud account work perfectly on the Watch. Notifications for emails sent to my other email account (Fastmail) do not work at all, not even the initial vibration. Notification settings for both accounts are identical and are set in the Watch app to mirror the phone.

It should be noted that I did the restoring of the iPhone and the Watch very soon after the watchOS 5.1.1 update. So it's quite possible that the 5.1.1 update made the difference, but I didn't have the presence of mind to check before erasing both devices and starting over, because I had a few other reasons to take that drastic measure, not just this notifications issue.

I did that too. It works for one of my mailboxes but the other still just dings with no haptic even though it is set up the same. Also, banners MUST be turned on for this to work at all. I don't want email banners. Never had to have them before.

Custom settings in the watch still don't work if you want to exclude a mailbox from notifications.

On my iPhone 7 running iOS 12, I have three email accounts, but only one that I ever use, so I turned them all on to get notifications, previews, dings and vibrations. It doesn't matter that the other two accounts are on, since I never, or rarely, get mail there. Then on my AW4 running watch OS 5.0.1, I switched it to custom, but still have all the same notification settings as on my phone. Craziness, but it works, so I'm leaving it alone.

watchOS 5.1.2 broke almost all notifications for me and my calendar events no longer sync. I re-paired x2 with no success. Then after restarting both phone and watch a few times more I got most of the functionality back. However every day I have to restart both devices several times to get notifications back. Many calendar events still don't sync. And iMessage dictation is also broken and requires toggling iMessage on and off in iPhone settings.
