Smart Cover issue on iPad running iOS 12.

I recently updated my iPad(6th gen,2018 model) from iOS 11.4 to iOS 12. I noticed that after the update, the magnetic cover doesn’t wake my iPad anymore, while it worked perfectly on iOS 11.4. Any fix for this issue? Thanks.

Call Apple at the phone number in the support link!

I contacted them. The first person I talked to advised me to do a restore from factory settings with iTunes on PC, which I did, but it still didn’t resolve the issue. Then I talked to a second person but due to some issues, I had to suspend the chat. The third person couldn’t figure out the issue, and said that the rsetore should have fixed that issue. She ran a dia test on my iPad, and said that everything appeared to be ok. She told that it might be possible that my 3rd party cover might not be compatible with iOS 12 anymore, and asked me to visit a service centre, as she couldn’t figure out the exact reason for the issue. Then my Apple Support app on my iPad stop responding and the chat ended.

Even the tech support executives aren’t sure about this issue.

I powered off the iPad and then turned it on, but nothing happened. Then I tried your method of force restart by pressing the power button and home button simultaneously. I didn’t see the Apple logo and the device turned off. I waited for a few seconds to let it turn on but it didn’t. Then I started it by pressing and holding the power button and it powered on. But still the issue persists.

One more thing I forgot to mention about that I recently had a talk with an Apple Support Executive, and even he advised me to do a restore with the help of iTunes, and said that if the issue isn’t resolved, then it maybe possible that the iPad no longer supports Auto wake/sleep function in iOS 12. So does that mean that iOS 12 doesn’t support it anymore?

One thing I forgot to mention about the cover.

In the preinstalled iOS 11.3 and 11.4 on my iPad, the cover did wake the screen up when the cover was lifted up, but the iPad didn’t go to sleep when the cover was closed, even on the above two mentioned versions. Now it doesn’t even turn the screen on when the cover is lifted up. The lock/unlock toggle didn’t appear in the Display and Brightness section, neither in iOS 11.3,11.4 or 12. But the magnets of the cover are working, and are able to activate the screen again if closed and lifted again, when the screen is about to turn off.

I beleive you have exceeded the knowledge and services provided to you here in a user to user Apple product support community.

You need real help from Apple in some more direct and useful manner.

I believe your 6th gen iPad/iOS 12 issues are beyond the user level of knowledge to help you solve your iPad/iOS 12 issues.

No one here has ever seen/read this particular issue or come across this issue in any other iPad postings and no one else with 6th gen iPad models are reporting in with your, seemingly, unique iPad issues.
