iPhone XS Charging issue

Just got my brand new iPhone XS today and put it on my Belkin dual iPhone & iWatch charging stand (not the wireless one) and it repeatedly chimes the charging chime and does not stop until I unplug it from the charger? Is anyone else having this issue?

Boo, it's listed as not compatible. Here is what is compatible with each dock.

The core issue is “does the charger conform to MFi standards?” If it does, Apple issue. If not, Belkin issue. With the evidence presented, balance of probabilities would point to Belkin (as no other MFi chargers appear to have the same issue). From what I understand, MFi is a self certified process, so Belkin can state “MFi” on a product without any form of independent verification.

If MFi certification includes voltage/charging standards (have not verified this) then it could be argued that Belkin failed to adhere to the technical requirements. That would then suggest that Belkin misrepresented the MFi compatibility. Misrepresentation = refund !

I called Apple regarding a refund (I bought it from them, so they are responsible for conformity issues in the EU). Since this the charger clearly doesn't respect the MFi standard or the Lightning standard this is clearly a conformity issue in my eyes.

According to them they won't issue a refund because the manufacturer cannot guarantee compatibility with all future phones. When I told them that I don't want compatibility with all future phones, but only with all phones with a lightning connector, I was told that the connector may look the same, but the parts inside the phone might have changed.

I'm currently waiting for a reply to a follow up email I made after the call.

Well here is another user having this issue. For a second i thought my charger was damaged, but realized my GFs X charges fine. How is it other cables charge the XS Max fine and this device doesnt? I did buy it at the apple store when i got my series 2 watch and assumed since i bought it there, its an official Apple licensed product. Its not like we bought some china amazon brand. Either Apple or Belkin needs to fix this. I dont even think i have my receipt anymore which would suck if i need it.

I really hope they have a fix for this.

Belkin does not list it as compatible with the iPhone Xs or Xs Max so your issue would be with Belkin. But since these iPhones were not available when they sold the product it is going to be difficult to make your case. MFi certification just means it will work with products available at that time and it isn't really a license.

MFi stipulates a set of technical criteria you must adhere to to satisfy the certification process. The reason Apple are not interested (at this stage) is because Belkin self certified compliance with MFi. Maybe the original design was changed during production and now that change has come back to bite them. Bottom line is that Belkin are really hoping this goes away and quickly!

I believe I will join you. I purchased two of these docks from the Apple Store here in Houston less than a year ago. Now just because I bought two XsMaxes, the docks are worthless to me. Two companies that have a lot more money than I do are pointing their fingers at each other and so far have not fixed the problem.
