Screen flicker on iPhone XS

Seems to be related to the brightness slider. When I go to the brightness settings and enter a room that is brighter or darker, I see the slider move as normal. As soon as is passes under the letter S in “brightness” it flickers once. I tried moving it manually, and I get the same issue at the same spot. It’s annoying, since it constantly goes up and down as I move around, and causes the flicker every time. Never had this with my 9 iPhones before this one. I hope it’s software related and there’s a fix on the way.

Anybody else having this issue?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

Ours (2) flickers for no apparent reason. I could go into my bank account app, or any other app and it’ll do it. Or I can just unlock it and it will do it. There is no rhyme or reason as to why it flickers. I just hope they do an update to get rid of this issue. I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone three and Apple is not keeping up with the many issues of owning an iPhone. It’s very disillusioning especially since this iPhone cost me over $1500.

Is this flickering very noticeable? I have something like this, but it's more at 40% of brightness. When I have True Tone "on", and I put phone near window and then back to darker part of room, I see the True Tone change (from cold to warm) and with this change I see a little bit of flickering at Apple photo app (during watching pictures) 😟. A I said, it's more at 40% of brightness, and don't know if this screen problem or software. Would be nice if Apple said something, if they working at update...

To be honest, when I slide brightness bar - nothing is happening. I only see it at photo app.

Can someone test it for me:

Turn on auto brightness and True Tone. Take a picture and go to camera roll. Now try to put your iPhone to environment where brightness is ~40% and try to move it around just to True Tone can do the job. Watch the white bar above the picture. I found out that many times when I watch pictures at camera roll, white bar is starting to flickering a little bit or dimming. It's especially noticeable when you watch pictures in two environments (day light and bulb at the same time)...

There is no such effect in Safari, Mail or Settings.

I’m also having the same issue on my XS Max. I have spoken to Apple support 3 times, also had it in at a Genuis bar appointment. Apple support told me to reset my settings and when that never worked, reset my phone back to factory settings, that also never worked. The guys in thr Apple store told me unless i could prove it was happening then nothing could be done, i was to use someone elses phone to video an intermittent faint but very noticable screen flicker. I’m just glad i never forked out for Apple Care because i would have been told the same thing. Spend £1200 on a phone that evdidently has an issue but your warranty won’t even cover it being fixed. According to Apple this isn’t an issue, clearly they don’t read these chat boards then as i have seen several people with the exact same issue. I just hope it is a software related issue and they get it sorted pretty **** fast.

It is infuriating. I spent $1570 on my iPhone due to 512 gigabytes and I purchased Apple Care too. Apple has gone downhill regarding their support. I’ve called them numerous times and they don’t even understand what I’m talking about. My daughter and I both have the same iPhone and it happens to hers also. I’ve done everything possible and it doesn’t work. The fast light flashing is blinding. To me it seems like a software issue and they need to read these message boards. I even had to take my Apple Watch Series 4 in because their latest software update 5.1 bricked it. It took a week to get an appointment and a week to get my watch back. They had to reset it and only they can do it and it couldn’t be done at the Apple store. But I guess they have enough money missing a few customers won’t kill them. It’s really sad I’ve had iPhones since their iPhone 3. To not care any longer and money is more important than good customer support makes me think about moving on.

Just notice this issue couple weeks ago.

I also have the same exact issue. The screen flickers when passes certain threshold with or without auto brightness. You have to slide the screen brightness very slowly if you want to reproduce this problem manually. And the problem appears to me just when I activated true tone and/or night shift. Without true tone and/or night shift, there is no flickering problem at all. Really annoys me because I am starting to like the true tone feature.

I’ve tried everything to have it quit flickering. Turning off and turning on True Tone. It doesn’t matter which app I am in or what I’m doing. It seems like this issue is not going to be addressed. I purchased this Apple iPhone outright with warranty and taxes it was $1570. for the 512 GB. This money for an iPhone was not easy to come by. I’ve gone to Apple and explained the issue to the Genius Bar personnel and they don’t know what I’m talking about. Because, of course, just like driving a car that has an issue, you can’t get it to do what you want when you want it to. I’m just hoping their next update will clear the issue even though they’re not addressing the problem.

What did you do guys after all!? I found I have the same issue like you guys, iPhone Xs Gold 64 GB. Is my 3rd replacement, First 2 have physical damage out of the box, firs on the back side of the glass on the beautiful gold colour have a black dot, and second out of the box was display cracked in the middle, with the third all perfect just this issue with brightness, I found by me I experienced this just when is combined with reduce white point from accessibility , if reduce white point is disabled don’t happens , I call the support and they said is 100% a hardware issue, hmm and they said I am the only one with this issue, but how I said? I give you the thread number from apple discussions, after 15 min of waiting the answer was send the info to engineers and my phone they send me a box to send it for repair, after almost 2 months, 1149 € paid and 2 replacement after first Xs, I send my iPhone to repair, is very convincing. I believe in a change of this kind of problems with the first units almost every year with different issues , new gates.....And who we have same issue we must to call support to tell this, if are more same complains will be a fast solution available, maybe just a new update!

I never had any physical issues on my iPhone or my daughters iPhone. If they’ve never heard of it that is absolutely strange because this is happening with two iPhones in the same household. We both have the iPhone SX Max 512 GB It is all internal; either software or hardware. But I am not an Apple genius. I’ve done everything you mentioned and even reset my phone. I give up I am just hoping they fix it with a software update. I can’t imagine that they don’t read these threads as it is their community after all. I am wishing for the best.

The issue with the screen flicker was present on my iPhone XS Max 256GB Space Gray and 256GB Gold, however I am happy to say that the issue has been fixed as of yesterday on both devices with the iOS 12.1.2 Beta 1.

I too had this annoying and angering issue with a very bad flicker that got noticeable in certain lighting conditions like being in the car when the sunlight is always changing the brightness level and True Tone, but it is now fixed!
