Mojave not compatible with Google Drive File Stream

If you are running Google Drive File Stream and upgrade to Mojave, the context menu for setting a file/folder as online/offline and the icons for indicating whether a file/folder is online/offline are no longer available. There is currently no ETA from Google for a fix.

Hi Richard,

I am also just a regular user, not a Google expert. You are right with your description of the process. For files that I work with for a longer time (current project, frequent use, ...) I prefer to set the respective folder to AVAILABLE OFFLINE. Then the file doesn't need to be downloaded every time you open it. This is much faster. Especially when you deal with large image files this makes a big difference. Whenever you save a file, it is automatically uploaded to the cloud (happens in the background). Once I am done with a project, I set the folder to ONLINE ONLY so that it doesn't take up disk space.

Hope this helps.

After upgrading to Mojave I had deleted/reinstalled Google Drive File Stream including deleting the complete folder ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS per Google Support instructions. Even after reinstalling the status icons as well as the context menu were missing. Google support inspected my File Stream log files and acknowledged this as a known issue.

Interestingly, earlier today both the icons and the context menu were back. Then I restarted Drive File Stream and now everything is gone again.

I don't have a solution yet. Waiting for a fix from Google support.

Her is Google's response: "So far, we've also received a lot of other reports on the same OS, so I think it has to do with the update to mojave, but I'm afraid I have no official response as of now yet. I'll keep your case open for now, waiting on their response and will get back to you as soon as I have any updates."

I updated my iMac's OS two days ago to Mojave (10.14). I then downloaded and installed Google FIle Stream for the very first time and it never runs. It shows up in the top menu bar but any time I attempt to sign in, it just errors out. Using "killall Finder" in terminal doesn't help. Maybe it does with folks who previously had File Stream already running, but from a fresh install of it, nothing works.

Thoughts (aside from waiting for a Google fix)...?

Thanks!

Richard

After installing Mojave I totally removed Google Drive File Stream (per Google Support instructions) and did a fresh install. File Stream worked, but with the know issues. Sounds like a different issue on your end. Did you do the typical system restart and try again? Depending on the amount of data you have on your Google Drive File Stream can take a long time to start. Does the error message point you in any direction?

Yup, that was the fix!

Thank you and I wonder if you can clarify what I'm learning...

I'm a photographer an it seems when I choose to open a file (in Google Drive, stored in the cloud) using Photoshop, the cached file I choose to open in the Google Drive folder (stored online) downloads and opens it in Photoshop. I do my edits, save and/or close it/Photoshop and it updates in the could.

Is this true?

Thank you again for all your help!

Richard
