Apple Watch Series 4 screen material

Hello,

I was wondering what material is used for the screen of the Apple Watch S4 and if a screen protector is necessary to protect it against scratches or the screen itself is going to be okay without one?

The aluminum model uses ION Glass, the Stainless Steel and Hermes use Sapphire.
