"There are no files or folders in this view"

For some reason, the photos on my ipod won't import to my hp computer, which has windows 8.1. It keeps saying "there are no files or folders in this view" even though I haven't imported any photos in about a month and have new ones i want to import. And yes, I've made sure my device is plugged in while the iPod is turned on. It was working just fine before, but now, all of a sudden it's acting weird. Currently, this is the only issue I'm experiencing on this desktop. All in all, why does the photos say that "there are no files or folders in this view"?

Hi lydiafromlynchburg,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having trouble importing photos from your iPod to your PC. I know it's important to be able to create a backup of your photos; I'd like to help. First, I'd suggest reviewing the information below to ensure the proper steps are being followed to import:

Import to your PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using Windows Photos app:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  2. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.
  3. You might need to unlock your iOS device using your passcode.
  4. You might also see a prompt on the iOS device asking you to Trust This Computer. Tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, follow the steps in these Microsoft knowledge base articles to learn how to import photos to Windows Photos app:

When you import videos from your iOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in Windows Photos app. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

Photos and videos that you sync from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes can't be imported back to your computer.

Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you continue to have trouble, use the steps below:

See if you can use iCloud Photo Library or My Photo Stream

If you turned on iCloud Photo Library on your Mac and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, your photos might already be on your computer. Use these steps to check for your photos in Photos for macOS. You can also go to iCloud.com and open the Photos app to see your entire photo library and choose photos to import. If you didn't turn on iCloud Photo Library, try using My Photo Stream to access your photos on your computer.

If you aren't using iCloud Photo Library or My Photo Stream, try the steps below.

Check your connections and update your software

Try to import your photos using a different Apple USB cable.

If you still can't import, update your software:

  1. Check for updates to your photo management software.
  2. Get the latest version of iTunes.
  3. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  4. Update your Mac or PC. In Windows, use the Windows Update application.
  5. Try to import your photos again.

Try to import a new photo

  1. Take a new photo or save a screenshot on your iOS device by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
  2. Connect your iOS device to your computer.
  3. Try to import your photos using your photo management software. Or try these steps on your computer:
    • On your Mac, open Image Capture from the Applications folder.
    • On your PC, go to the Microsoft website to learn how to import photos in Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7.

If your computer doesn't see your device, make sure that your device trusts the computer.

Try a different computer

If you don't see the camera entry in the Device Manager, test your iOS device on a different computer. If another computer recognizes the iOS device as a camera, contact Microsoft, or whoever supports Windows on your computer, for help.

If you can't import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

Best Regards.
