iPhone XS Max Speaker(in the earpiece) issue

I recently bought iPhone XS Max 64gb silver variant, the front speaker near the earpiece stops working after some use. The earpiece works absolutely fine while making and receiving calls, but while playing any media file, only the bottom speaker works not the top one. This issue is now constantly arising on both my iPhones XS Max variants,

to rectify the issue, I have to restart the iPhone every time to make the top speaker work , until it gets back to dead.

Pls help.

I informed te Apple service Centre guys and showed them the entire thread along with various videos on Youtube regarding the speaker issue , the person-in-charge himself admitted the issue and informed me that they were themselves clueless about it. So my device is with them and I am yet to hear from them, will keep everyone posted.

I too have an iPhone Xs Max 64GB and noticed the stereo function failing. Mainly, the earpiece speaker ceasing to function when playing any type of media. However, the earpiece speaker works absolutely fine when making or receiving phone calls. A restart, force restart, reset all phone settings and DFU/restore fix the issue for about a day, then back to the same issue. Man, i just want my phone to work as advertised. This version iPhone has given me the most problems out the past 2 models i have previously owned. I started out with the 6s a few years ago. Neither my 6s nor 8 Plus had any problems, they were great phones. BTW, I hear the "stereo bug" persists even in the recent 12.1 Beta.........

APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS.

Did you ever do a soft reset, where you click up then down on volume and then hold power button until u see the apple logo? I read somewhere people were having some success with that as apose to just shutting it off and then back on again which only works for a short time. I did the soft reset yesterday. Still working now but it usually takes three days or so for my phone to malfunction.

I know you didn’t ask me, but I’ve done that numerous times. In fact it’s how I usually get my speaker to come back on. I am assuming turning it off and then back on will do the same thing. Apple’s silence on this is deafening, and we may never hear any admittance from them. Will they slip it in in one of the updates without announcing it? Maybe, but that seems to be the way of the world anymore, and big corporations are leading the way in denials. Let’s face it iOS 11 was a subpar operating system, by anyone’s standards let alone apples. iOS 12 seems to be very stable, with none of the glitches that never got straightened out with iOS 11. Like I mentioned before, I have been a iPhone owner since the 3G, and the only thing stopping me from jumping ship is that android is susceptible to bugs, and hacking more than iOS is. I understand the most secure cell phone in the world is an android, but you have to drop close to $3000 to have it. You can google that.

I haven’t tried to use any audio in a day or two, so I just checked it right now. My earphones speaker was out, and I can Confirm that turning it off, and back on, as well as a reboot temporarily fixes the issue. My earpiece speaker seems to go out after a certain amount of time, and a reboot seems to fix it for 24 hours or so. The last time I was on the phone with Apple, a senior advisor said he heard of someone having the same speaker issues after using his AirPods, or some other brand of headphones, via Bluetooth. I usually do not Bluetooth, but I can confirm that at least for me, Bluetooth is not the cause. At least this one senior advisor admitted that there

is at least one other instance of the same problems that we are having. Btw I had my screen name changed recently, but I had posted here several days ago 😬

The apple advisor was talking about me, I was the one who informed them of the issue, I mentioned the bluetooth part, as I noticed the speaker went out after disconnecting my bluetooth device, but that is not the case, it happens periodically, there is no specific time frame as to when the issue will arise after the reboot. It`s most probably a software bug, I submitted my iphone to service centre and was informed that my device has been replaced . The device is yet to be handed over to me, let me have my device back and i`ll keep everyone updated. This week the iOS 12.1 is also coming out, that might take care of this glitch as Apple is still silent on this issue, and I don`t think so, they would accept this.

I see. My device was replaced approximately ten days ago and the replacement device did the exact same thing. My replacement device came with iOS 12, which iTunes prompted me to update to 12.0.1 before I did a restore. I believe apple knew about this problem long ago because they were not that interested in getting their hands on my device nearly two weeks ago. That tells me that they could replicate it themselves in their own testing, or they knew about it going out the door. Either way, I would just like my new phone to work properly, as I’m sure everyone else that has this problem once also.

I’m running the public 12.0.1 and have yet had the issue of “Stereogate” reoccur.

It’s going on 7 days problem free. What I did was - Turn off Bluetooth (IN SETTINGS). Then I restarted my phone; in that order.

I know this isn’t a solution but more of a workaround. I emailed Apple my two cents on the issue through the “Apple feedback” link posted earlier in this thread by....... someone, a moderator I think, I forget.

“Stereogate” will most likely be fixed in an iOS update, I just hope it’s sooner than later!

Mine always comes back within hours usually overnight and I wake up and bam it’s done for and have to reset on beta 5 it did it within hours. So far the longest is still the 12.0.1 it sometimes will last 24-36 hours before happening but beta 1-5 always comes right back within a cpl hours really strange some reason I think it stems from new mail tone and text tone if u out your phone on silent it won’t happen at all it will always play music out top speaker but if u get a text tone or a email tone and a notification tone like if they come in at same time it sticks the speaker on when it’s not working if u out ur hear on the top speaker while music is playing from bottom speaker u can hear white noise and if u stop the music within 5 secs the white noise also stops very strange indeed

Well, my phone made it a whole 7 days. Speaker just went out again today.

Tapped to wake, up pops my lock screen then..........nothing. The screen froze, none of the buttons worked, no Face ID, no swipe up, just hung/stuck on the lock screen. After about 45 seconds the phone decided to reboot itself. First time I’ve had an iPhone just lock up.

Shortly after the reboot, the top speaker went out. SOB! Just when I thought I was going to be one the lucky ones.
