Screen Sharing not responding to input

I have a new iMac Pro upgraded to Mojave. I have screen sharing activated and can connect remotely to the computer. I see the login screen bit it does not respond to either mouse or keyboard input. Same happens if I am logged on. I'm not in observer mode on the client. The client works fine to connect to other computers, so it's clearly on the server end. Firewall is off. Any thoughts?

I figured it out for people having the same problem.

If you use launchctl to activate screen sharing under Mojave it gives you observe only access. It's a bit confusing since there's no indication of this anywhere that I can see ("Screen Sharing" is checked in settings as normal). Turns out in Mojave you have to go into Settings and inactivate and then reactivate Screen Sharing to get it to work normally after using launchctl.

This is how I learned this: https://scriptingosx.com/2018/09/apple-remote-desktop-screen-sharing-and-mojave/
