That's correct. There is no CarPlay app. Either a car has CarPlay or it doesn't. If it does, when you connect the iPhone via USB CarPlay should appear in the car head unit. From car to car however, how they actually connect varies. The OP should read their car manual for directions if the car supports CarPlay.

Make sure Siri is turned on in Settings. If Siri is off, CarPlay won't show up at all.
Sounds like there is a problem with your iPhone, make a Genius Bar appointment to get it looked at or click on the Contact Support link on the top right of this page. Before you do that get a flashlight and a toothpick and carefully clean the Lightning connector on your iPhone. Also check the USB lock status.
Wireless CarPlay? What car do you have? Wireless CarPlay is pretty new and not available in many cars yet.
As far as I know there is no CarPlay app to show up. Does your car/head unit support wireless CarPlay?
So it isn't restricted. Do you have Wireless CarPlay in your car?
Cool. I wasn't aware BMW offered Wireless CarPlay yet. I'll be taking delivery of a 2019 Mercedes E450 in about a week (if the thing will ever make it off the vessel coming from Bremerhaven, to the Port of Brunswick, GA), and even in 2019, Mercedes isn't including Wireless CarPlay.
This is what I was referring to:
If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
CarPlay doesn’t show up in my list
Thanks, what I wasn't sure about was where the OP was with that screenshot, I knew there was no "app" as such. I have Wireless CarPlay.
2018 BMW X3.
BMW has had it as an option for a couple of years.
That's nice. Mercedes hasn't gone there yet.
It is a 2017 Camaro. CarPlay works with other iPhones. I have a 6s plus. I think there must be a setting somewhere on mine that is stopping it from working but I have tried everything I can find
You still haven't answered my question. The second screen shot you posted is if you are connected you phone via Wireless CarPlay, it has nothing to do with using a USB cable.
No
I can’t get my CarPlay to work with my iPhone 6s Plus. There are no restrictions on but CarPlay doesn’t show up in the allowed app list. When I do click on CarPlay the allowed car list never shows up
