My Mac sees my microphone and the level meter moves up and down. But garage band not so much. It is all set up correctly with the correct input and output but no registering of the mic at all. This often happens - any ideas welcome?

After hours of searching I found the solution.

To use garageband with Mojave you have to go into security and privacy and give Garageband access to your mic.

In my view this is a very troubling erosion of privacy, bringing to our PC's the same philosophy of giving strangers access to your data and your life that applies if you want to use apps on tablets.

I hope this is reversed but it is likely the beginning of more intrusive computing. The big companies will not be happy until our lives are opened up to them in their entirety.

All the best

Billybob.
