iPhone could not be found

Hi All,

Yesterday I wanted to use Apple Pay on my Macbook Pro for the first time. I tried to pay with Apple Pay in the Apple Store but I kept getting the message "iPhone could not be found, please make sure iPhone is nearby"

I have looked at previous posts, some of them several years old and have verified the following:

  • Bluetooth on
  • Shipping address, email and phone number entered
  • Handover enabled
  • "Use Apple Pay on Mac" enabled
  • Region Settings match between Mac and iPhone
  • Same iTunes account is used
  • Apple Pay works fine in stores or directly in iPhone or iPad
  • All devices have latest iOS and MacOS
  • Deleted com.apple.Safari.plist file
  • Cleared cookies
  • Checked Safari for "Allow websites to check if Apply Pay is set up".

What else am I missing?

I contacted Apple Pay support and they were able to help me resolve the problem with some good old fashioned trouble shooting.

The only thing that seemed to work was booting in to safe mode so the system would blow out some caches related to Safari. Or that was the way I understood it.

We were able to come to that conclusion by creating a new user account on my iMac, setting up iCloud in said account and then using Safari from that account to trying to make a purchase form Apple.com and everything worked fine.

That was what seemed to work in my case. Your millage may vary.
