Both MacBook Air and iMac, both running Sierra 10.12.6. Spotlight opens up and as soon as I start typing in the search field, it just disappears! I get a couple of letters in and as I type, the entire spotlight just goes away. I haven't used it in a while and both machines act the same way. Problem with ver 6 of Sierra?
See if anything here helps. Try going to System Preferences/Spotlight/Search Results and uncheck Bookmarks and History.
