Spotlight disappears

Both MacBook Air and iMac, both running Sierra 10.12.6. Spotlight opens up and as soon as I start typing in the search field, it just disappears! I get a couple of letters in and as I type, the entire spotlight just goes away. I haven't used it in a while and both machines act the same way. Problem with ver 6 of Sierra?

Spotlight closes after typing a few characters This just started happening to me in macOS Sierra 10.12.6. It doesn't happen all the time, but often and it's really annoying. It usually happens after tying 2-4 characters. I saw another thread that mentioned this same problem, not no resolution. Any ideas. I've tried rebooting to no avail.

Spotlight stopped working all of a sudden Hi there, Spotlight just stopped working on my M1 MacBook Air. It won't show up with my usual keyboard shortcut and won't work either when I click on the magnifying glass on the taskbar. How can I get it back working ? Thanks !

Spotlight disappearing I just purchased a new MacBook Pro yesterday, updated to Monterey 12.3.1, and spotlight search disappears after typing two characters in. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

See if anything here helps. Try going to System Preferences/Spotlight/Search Results and uncheck Bookmarks and History.

Spotlight crashes from API misuse

Spotlight search always quits itself when typing.

Wow - that did it. Now Spotlight acts like it is supposed to.
