My iPad Pro screen is often unresponsive to touch with screen and keyboard. Reboot does not seem to help.

Do you use a glass screen protector?

Take it off.

These new iPad Pro models with the new liquid retina display do not like ANY type of screen protector on the screen.

Touch response is poor with any type of applied screen protector.

To All in this post.

This is NOT what you are going to want to read/learn, but this is a known issue across all iPad Pro year and models ( even the brand new 2018, 3rd gen iPad Pro models ) and it is starting to affect both the 2018 and 2017 6th and 5th gen 9.7 inch screen iPads, too!!

I am beginning to think that this is a growing issue that is NOT hardware related, but either iOS 11 and/or iOS 12 related bug.

I have a 1st gen, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro still running iOS 10.3.3 and I am NOT experiencing these recent intermittent touch screen issues.

The best you can do is alert Apple to this growing issue.

The only way to get Apple to, DIRECTLY, listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website.

iPad Feedback

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel , but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

The more users that post product feedback about any product issue, the faster Apple is made aware and starts working on a fix/solution for a future software update.

Also, you may want to phone contact Apple, directly in Cupertino, California, and calmly talk to an Apple customer service employee about this issue via the link below.

“For those whom have touch screen unresponsive issue with iOS 12.1.....

Goto Setting -> General -> Accessibility -> Touch Accommodations, Turn on Touch Accommodations. Leave everything else in the options alone.

All my touch issues gone!”

Apple replaced my 12.9" iPad Pro at an Apple store.

About six months after I bought my iPad Pro in 2017, it started to act up exactly as described. Nothing actually makes it better except to wait a couple of seconds till it stops. Problem is, eventually, it will act up every few seconds and then you will go insane.

I talked to Apple a number of times when this was happening and they professed no knowledge of the problem. We went through the entire sequence of "fixes" including the complete wipe and restore (not from back up either - all new) and the problem persisted.

Ultimately Apple said go to a Genius Bar. I did and they almost immediately swapped out my unit for a new one.

Well, here we are six months later and guess what? Yep, the new one is now almost as bad as the old one. So I guess we start this all over again. I doubt somehow that Apple will keep replacing the units once my Apple Care runs out. And I would bet that they're not going to give me my money back either.

If you're having this problem, CALL Apple support. Go through the standard sequence of fixes. It won't make any difference. You can then tell them it didn't make any difference. IF you have Apple Care, you might get lucky, but unfortunately, this is not a software problem. Something is going wrong with the display itself.

Good luck all. And wish me luck.

If you have Apple Care on the thing, call and go through the entire aggravating diagnostic procedure with them (because they won't admit there's a problem). They eventually will get to the point where they have nothing left to offer and then will recommend you send it in (don't) or go to an Apple Store. At that point, you'll have a case number. I have replaced mine twice. They don't even try to replicate it; they just look it over for damage, pull some info off it and trade. At most, they might do a screen diagnostic if they see another problem (my first replacement had backlighting issues), but stand firm; they'll take the trade in. If you don't have Apple Care, use the online chat instead and make a fuss there about what it's doing; you'll get to the same place. We shouldn't have to put up with this nonsense; we pay too much for Apple products. Stand your ground.

iOS 12.2 was supposed to fix this issue.

This was an iOS 12 bug/issue.

If iOS 12.2 did not fix this issue for you, there is nothing that can be done except wait for the next iOS 12.3 update.

This issue is mainly affecting a small minority of all three years of iPad Pro models.

On your 2018 iPad Pro, in Settings app, look for the Tap to Wake feature and turn this off and see if your touchscreen issues improve, or not.

Best of Luck to You!

Same here. I replied to this thread back in December 2018. I’ve been monitoring ever since, with nothing to add except, yeah, my touch screen still doesn’t work well. I’ve installed at least a couple of updates since then, always hopeful, but ultimately disappointed with the same issues. I installed 12.2 a couple of days ago, after reading several good reports in this thread for the first time in a long time, and suddenly my touch screen is running like a top. I’m typing this reply on my iPad 12.9 2018. I’ve hated typing on this thing since this whole thing started. Now it’s quick and accurate. I haven’t drawn with it yet, so we’ll see if the gestures have stopped choking up, but the device feels much more responsive. I’m optimistic the problem is resolved, because nothing has made this better for me until now.

I’ve not had any trouble with mine for a little over a week now. I’ve been using it the same way in the same place and everything is working properly. It does start to act up on occasion and I have a little bottle of anti-static spray That you spritz on the front of your shirt in your hand and the problem goes away. I believe the issue is static electricity. From what I’ve read of users with problems, most are using them in their lap. When you’re arms and the iPad are touching the same cloth is where I notice the problem, I believe our fingers are becoming static neutral. If you don’t want to get and use static spray, next time it happens hold the iPad up in the air with one hand take the other hand and lightly rub around the metal perimeter of the iPad with the other hand. And then start to use it again and see if that works.

Called Apple Support, tried all remedies and they didn’t work. They advised an appointment at the Genius Bar at my local apple store. Called in there this morning and they were very helpful. I’d recommend going through apple support and try their remedies and if that doesn’t work arrange an appointment at your local store Genius Bar.

Also i found this YouTube video which shows the issue I’m having exactly https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZBh07sdJnA

I have an iPad Pro 12.9. 2018 and a week or so ago, it started with the non responsive screen, it is about 6 months old. The freezing was getting more frequent and was just about to return it to the apple store for a refund, along with my 2017 model that has the exact same fault.

Installed the 12.3 update last night and haven’t had any issues since, but I guess time will tell. Apple’s refusal to acknowledge and fix the problem has cost me almost 2k so it is doubtful that I would buy another iPad after this.

i do not have a pencil for the 2018 iPad Pro, but I do have the old pencil with the 2017 model.
