Internet (Hard wired and WiFi) drops until Mac is shut down or restarted?

2 to 3 hours after my iMac (2015 running Mojave) is turned on my internet/wifi drops until I re-start the Mac or turn it off. The modem shows no change in connection but none of the connected devices can access the internet until the mac is either shut down or restarted. Our ISP (CenturyLink) has replaced the modem twice and sent technicians to our house but their connections always look good. The mac seems to be the problem. Apple Support suggested I disconnect the Mac from the power source to reset RAM and other parameters but that did not help the problem.

Any suggestions on why this happens?

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.14

I would suggest the next time it happens, open Applications->Utilities->Activity Monitor

and select the network tab and see what is going on. If there seems to be a lot of traffic,

see on the list what is using all the bandwidth.

I would have considered a possible hardware issue but since you say it happens with

both WiFi and Ethernet, it sounds more like some app, firmware, or possible malware

issue.
