Powerbeats Pro Connection problems

Hi

I have a problem automatically connecting one of the Powerbeats Pro headphones. Sometimes its left one sometimes its the right one. I have iPhone Xs Max so i open powebeats pro case remove left headphone put it on and nothing happens. I remove the right one and put it on and it connects but the left one doesn't. The only way to connect it remove it put it back into the case. Sometimes i need to put back both left and right back to the case and after that it connects. Sometimes i have the problem with the right one. I did a reset but still the problem exist. Anyone has the same problem? looks like its a firmware problem but not sure if there is an update for that.

I have this issue too. Often one of the sides won't connect. Even if I am not near other bluetooth devices. Turning the bluetooth on my iPhone on and off does not help. If you swipe left to see the battery widget only one of the sides shows up.

I have to put them back in the case for a second and then take them out, to get them to work.

Ok, so possibly a third scenario then. Mine are charging fine and still almost every single time I go to use them (I’d say 90% of the time) one of the ear pieces doesn’t connect. Occasionally I will check charge before a scheduled conference call I am having. Both earpieces show in the battery status screen as 100% (whilst in the case). I take them out, one doesn’t connect. It could well all be related to some mating issue in the case but it isn’t manifesting to me as any non-charging scenario.

I’ve only experienced a dead or uneven charge a handful of times in 6 months and I use them every weekday for phone calls. Practically every single day I have connection issues.

Interesting, yes, possibly a third. What I have been doing is opening up the battery screen on the iPhone before touching the powerbeats and taking notice of what is being displayed. Then I open the case, and watch to see what charge status shows on the phone. I then take both out of the case and see if they both show up on the iPhone charge status. If both show on the charge status page, then I have found that they have been connecting reliably 100% of the time. If only one shows, then the other will fail as per the two scenarios I noted in my last post.

If in your third scenario you are seeing the case, the left, and right headphones all clearly displayed on the iPhone screen after you lift them out of the case, then I would assume they have a connection to the iPhone at that point, and the issue is not the failure scenarios related to charging I noted. I think lifting them out of the case and observing the charge status is an important test to make sure it is the headphone, and not the case, reporting charge status to the iPhone.

I should have come to this thread a long time ago.  I’ve been having the exact two issues mentioned above since I bought them in June.

90% of the time I use them something goes wrong.

Either one headphone won’t work and I have to put both of them back in the case OR the most annoying and frequent is they just won’t disconnect from my phone properly and charge when I put them back in. I have to mess with it 5-10 minutes to get that red light on the outside of the case to go away, otherwise I’ll come back and my right (usually) one will be dead and still connected to my phone.

Finally sent them in for repair this week and they didn’t even have them for 2 hours today before sending them back saying they found no problem. Before I sent them in I couldn't get the right earpiece to disconnect from my phone and that red light to go away AT ALL after messing with it for over an hour. (case is fully charged)

If Apple thinks I’m going to accept a faulty product they’re out of their mind.

Feb 12, 2020 3:54 PM in response to de00304

Yep, this is by far my biggest problem. I have to spend 5-10 minutes every time I use them finagling trying to get them to sit and charge correctly and to get the red light to stay white.

Before I sent them in this week I couldn't get my right one to unpair from my phone and the red light to go away at all....after an hour straight of trying to get them to sit in the case properly I am done with Powerbeats Pro.

Hmm, maybe the person who is deleting posts could help us all out and escalate this to someone who could finally attempt to acknowledge or support us finding a solution to the issues. I notice someone posted a new thread today regarding one of the powerbeats pro ear pieces not working intermittently (sounding exactly like some of the issues here) and a community specialist responded to it straight away. What gives? Who will please help us. Please.

Yeah I got an email from someone replying to my post and it was deleted right away. Apple is definitely aware and ignoring this issue on these forums; which is just gonna make their phone customer service teams have to deal with nightmare customers. They’re gonna have to deal with it sometime, somewhere.

I’m guessing they all just hope this blows over by the time warranty’s are up in June or July and they’ll push out the Powerbeats Pro 2 or something.

That might work with some people but I am not accepting a faulty product.

I have had the same connection problem. When trying to use ear pieces the left one seemed to not connect

way more than the right. My son-in-law is having the same connection problem. We got these ear pieces

August 2019 and had problems within a couple month of buying them. Afterhaving connection problems

you will get the left ear piece not charging. These are $275 ear pieces !

After initial conversation they are needing to escalate up to higher levels. THis is COMPLETELY wrong !!!!!

Apple knows about this problem and are not doing the correct thing by replacing these headphones. My next

concern will come when the next headphones don't work and apple claims they are out of warranty.

$275 headphones and I need to go through this !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sounds like Apple rushed this product to market by not fixing all lnown problems. Apple needs to do the

right thing by selling us an inferior product and replacing them with the ones that are fianally fixed.

For some background and context, here is a simple reason why we have some many problems with PowerBeats and why it is difficult to get the problems resolved.

They are not made by Apple and they are not really serviced by Apple. This is pretty much hidden from the public until, like me, you take this to the point of repair. They are sent to Beats who makes all the decision.

Beats by Apple seems to be a marketing arrangement that helps sell PowerBeats etc because they appear to be an Apple product.

Mar 17, 2020 9:19 AM in response to arpege

I experienced this firsthand when I had to get my left earbud replaced and I was mistakenly charged despite the defect cropping up under warranty. It took close to 3 hours on the phone to get that resolved.

I’m guessing it’s the same reason we don’t get Find my Powerbeats like AirPods owners get. Apple doesn’t actually stand by Beats products as first-class citizens under this arrangement.

Why make it so difficult for the user? Apple has a problem here

1) poor instructions if you are going you get so technical then you need to explain it better and make it intuitive

2) the process takes too long to turn on and get going

If this happens again where despite following instructions it does not work I’m making a return

***by the way the charging set up is also clunky. If not lined up just so and I mean perfectly, the charge will not occur

I have had intermittent connection and charging issues since I bought mine over a year ago. After sending them in for repair twice, and having the problems continue, I set to examining the issue myself. I believe the issue resides in an interference problem between the case and the part of the earhook as it connects to the body of the headphone. If this part (right as the earhook attaches to the body) is a bit too far forward, that is taking up a bit too much room in the case’s corner pocket, the whole earpiece slides out very slightly and creates a slight offset in the connection of the charging prongs to the cups on the earpiece. This is just enough to cause an unreliable connection and constant switching as the case is handled, or battery drain if it disconnects. This causes most of the issues with connection when the headphones are take out. To solve this, you need to make sure to push the very start of the earhook down (toward the earpiece) and back ( away from the face with the rocker switch and toward the rest of the hook). This creates more space in the pocket of the case to prevent that slight spring effect offset and gets a solid connection between case and earpiece. The only way to verify this is with the battery widget showing left and right ears separate so you can see both charging consistently when you put them in. Once adjusted, they charge and connect more consistently. Hope this helps

I am having this same problem.

my right ear bud does not seem to connect. It shows it is charged but it does not connect at all to Bluetooth. I have tried resetting the buds, I have disconnected and reconnected with no luck. They worked for a year with no problem and now won’t work in the right ear. In that year I have barely used them 20-30 times. I will call tomorrow for support. As this is an ongoing issue it seems I’ll be pushing for replacement or refund under consumer law as the product is faulty and doesn’t not provide the service it stated.

My wife and I both have these and they both have the same issues. It’s ridiculous and Apple needs to step up and either fix the issues — only one headphone connecting and one not charging correctly — immediately or refund all of us the full price. It’s it a completely faulty product. I sent my wife’s pair in explaining the issues and I got them back a week later with a note saying nothing way wrong. Total Bullsh!t!!!

apple- you will face a class action on these $250 lump of crap soon if you do not a knowledge and FIX the issues immediately.

Hi all,

in follow up to my previous post. I had my Powerbeats pro checked out by our local Mac supplier who stated the same as us all, one side won’t connect.

I has done hours of trouble shooting prior to this and spent have in total spent more than 4 hours on the phone to Apple. I am finally getting a refund through Australian consumer Law as they are over 1 year old.

I am now waiting for them to be picked up so I can get a refund.

It has been a marathon trying to get these refund but it will be worth it when the money is back in my bank account.
