Macbook 15 inch 2017 has the same stage light / Fluxgate problem that the 13 inch model has. Please provide link to Apple repair / replacement program
"Apple does not admit that this is a problem and not offering
any program. They are asking ~700$ US for repair"
so far that looks like what can be interpreted from their silence.
They admit / take responsibility for this exact issue with the 13 inch, less expensive to fix models, but for the 15 inch, more expensive to fix models, yes, they didn't admit this is a problem yet.
You can go without appointment in the morning (first hour), that's what I did, but I don't know if it is like this in all Apple stores.
I just got it back, it costed me 760€... a bit expansive for an engineering failure.
Now I just wait for Apple to cover it like the 13" model, because all the macbook pro from 2016 and 2017 will have this problem soon or later, it's just a question of time
They used to have a $400 flat fee if there was no physical or water damage. Now they won't even offer that on a known issue. Customer service is completely clueless to the matter and just keeps passing me along until someone ignores me.
Same problem on my 15" MacBook Pro that I bought in early 2017; the problem started about 10 days ago, and it is very clearly a design defect. It seems there is now a class action lawsuit that was filed this month. Let's see how Apple responds...
Yeah, it's absurd that Apple doesn't acknowledge this problem for the 15" model, despite having the very same problem.
When I was at the Apple Store for repair the Genius diagnosed that I have the stage light problem. When I asked if Apple covers the repair he said that Apple doesn't know this problem exists for the 15-inch model.
What? Didn't you just say my 15" MacBook Pro has this problem?
I mean, at least Apple knows now, right? ... Right?
Long story short, unless a lawsuit forces Apple to react I think they will hold on to their tactic of denying it, unfortunately.
Same problem here on my late 2016 15" MBP. I took it in with curbside service and the technician broke the news to me that the display needs to be replaced. Super disappointing that the current service program does not cover 15" models.
Hi all,
I just take back my MacBook Pro from the authorized Apple repair center.
After making a clear and factual claim, they accept to take in charge the screen replacement.
They do it case per case so this is not confirm that Apple decision for mine can be the same for yours.
My only advise is to write a clear and factual claim explaining what's happen, providing the cotation from official apple repair center and explaining the flex issue.
Good luck to all.
cheers
Same problem with my 13" Macbook Pro 2017 model. Only the 2016 model is covered, even though the redesign didn't happen until 2018. TERRIBLE of Apple to expect us to pay hundreds of dollars to fix this when it was clearly due to a design fault.
Just posting this again since some people seem to think they can work “together” with apple (lol)
I have the stage light problem now on my 2016 MBP 15" Apple has a program that they are applying ONLY to 13 " models, providing a 5 year extended warranty to cover what is a $600 replacement. I tried calling Apple support anyway, and they were clueless and unhelpful. I went in to the Apple store today, just to get the problem validated by a "Genius", but we need to make some noise about this.
I am trying to find my way around this website where you can write to Apple-there is such a page, but I can't figure out where it is...
I am facing the exact same problem with my Macbook 15''. The screen has been not working when opened over 45 degrees. Been using it with a monitor and macbook acts just as a CPU now.
Saw this recent article: https://in.pcmag.com/laptops/141840/judge-decides-apple-knowingly-sold-defective-macbook-pros
The Genius Bar can’t do anything. I went there and showed them all the reports online. I asked them to at least pass it on up the chain. The worst is the Apple support line. They just said they don’t have anyone to talk to and I could write a letter to Apple.
Yes, my invoice has typed ’Proposed Resolution: Display and top case repair covered under quality programs‘ the price is shown 935.94 AUD + 100 AUD labour fee (around 781.36 USD), but the amount due is 0... (PS, I didn't purchase for the AppleCare)
See if you have any emails from Apple back from that time when they mis-diagnosed this issue. Put pressure on them to backdate your Applecare. Very poor customer service, shame Apple shame.
