MacBook Pro 2017 15" kernel panic after going to sleep

Finding: If your MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) kernel panics with "AppleACPIPlatformPower.cpp" after going to sleep and you have the same issues with a fresh system installation of High Sierra and Mojave, then your mainboard is defective and need to be replaced.

Same here (15 MBP 2018, 10.13.6). I doubt it can be hardware problem... I restart computer daily multiple times, so I don`t believe one update with two restarts would start it. It is something with the software.

I just upgraded the OS to Mojave (10.14.6) and the issue no longer occurs.

Initially I tried SMC reset, disk first aid from recovery OS, clearing the system cache, removing VirtualBox, but none of those attempts fixed the issue.

Successfully updated to Mojave without any sleep panics yesterday after trying countless fixes; SMC, PRAM, booting from a previous clone, re-installing a previous clone, clean install, etc, etc... the only thing that worked for me was upgrading to Mojave - after I re-installed a cloned backup that didn't have any Security or Safari Update applied to it, I upgraded my 2016 15" MBP to Mojave from the latest 10.14.6 full installer. I typically shut the lid ( sleep ) overnight and can verify that it works fine for me. Yesterday I had only performed shorter sleep tests and found it worked.

I also tested a cloned re-install by just 'sleeping' from the menu and found that short ( less then a minute or so ) sleeping worked but anything longer then that minute would immediately set off a panic.

Apple really does need to be held publicly responsible for this fiasco. I've never experienced as many problems with Apple software / hardware ever.

When this happened to me last time, almost a year and half ago, it was

because of bit9 agent installed by our IT on my macbook. I am also

experiencing exactly the same issue again. And, I suspect it is because

of Carbon Black agent. Does your macbook has either bit9 or carbon black

installed on it?

I am wondering if something installed is helping cause this as I have a machine on 2019-004 and can't reproduce the crashing when closing the lid.

There is a new update on Mojave, but still doesn't work on my Macbook Pro 15' - 2018... Still very very long to open after a nap.

And when a turn off my computer sometimes it is totally block and it can't open, trackpad is block too, so I have to reset... What is going on ?

yes I have installed virtual box and I update my system yesterday and this problem start.

Did you try to reinstall everything ?

It is virtually impossible that a software update physically damages the mainboard. Must be a software issue caused by apple's security update.

SMC reset seems to have fixed it for me. Just tried it both plugged in and on battery.

i have installed new update. Issue has been fixed
