I just had a chat with Apple Support on this. It was not yet a known problem for them, but they advised me to perform a NVRAM/PRAM reset: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

After this procedure the True Tone switches and flickering are gone on my system (it's 15 minutes since performing the procedure, so I guess time will tell, but looking good so far..)

Guys, I have a solution for this issue.
The only one who helped correctly was an Egyptian guy from the technical support team in Dubai called Farahat. He advised to reinstall Mojave system after rebooting to recovery. I did that and I had a chance ti test it for 3 hours and the true tone was fine.
I really want to thank that guy.

Sounds a bit too radical indeed. Reinstalling the OS is a great inconvenience while the result is not guaranteed because it will still be the same hardware running the same OS version.

From what I have experienced since this post was launched confirm what all the contributors said :

nothing seems to solve this problem : reboot, PRAM/VRAM reset, power controller reset, reinstall ...

I did note something though : It happens mainly when you have direct light on the screen.

At the moment I am in front of my window, the light is bright, and since hours I have zero flickering.

While when the light is hitting directly the screen (and then the sensor) it seems to provoke this crazy behavior from blueish to normal.

The True Tone glitch problem hit me after I upgraded to macOS 10.14.6 / MBP "13 2018 model almost a month ago. Very annoying!

The problem occurs occasionally and on some specific locations. When the late-afternoon day light shines directly onto the screen sensor, it usually occurs. The screen turns from warm colour to cold one several times in a second. But when the laptop is used at my home where another light condition is around, the glitch never happens.

It seems we have to remind Apple of this issue. So far all tech supports from Apple are nothing but a waste of time. The technicians guys only tell me a long list of routine check-list.

No changes for me,

I have 2 laptops 13" and 15", 2018 and 2019 models, and when I'm sitting against a teal wall, True Tone is flickering like crazy on both of them.

The issue had started with 10.14.6 and since then never resolved. No nvram/pram reset neither upgrading one of the laptops to Catalina helped.

It's extremely annoying and Apple support is just wasting my time, no help at all.
