Dolby Vision content displaying distorted since tvOS 12.4 update.

Remember that if Apple aren't aware of the widespread problem, they will certainly not fix it. The more people that report it to Apple Support, the more likely they are to spend resources fixing it? When I phoned, they had no other records of it having been raised (or at least they couldn't match up similar reports), but he did find these posts (which Apple do not watch)

Useful to know that it isn't specific to LG TVs, and is affecting quite new models as well.

Apple need to sort this out as there is no point in my buying more DV movies from iTunes until it is fixed....which means anything 4K as most of the new 4k movies seem to be in DV? I've noticed that this also affects the DV content on Apple TV+ when I watch the trailors

It seems to be TV related and the question is why processing Dolby Vision content on some TVs isn’t working correctly with the Apple TV implementation of content they are streaming but it does work with with Dolby Vision content outside of Apple TV...

Watched, or tried to watch, “for all mankind” on ATV+ last night and The number of distorted scenes was far greater than any movie I have. Thinking I’m going to have to move to Netflix for all future purchases

I am about to replace my TV as well with one of the current LG OLEDs. I have no idea if it will solve the problem. Your point above gives some hope that will be the case. This is unfortunate though. I still think it's a problem with Apple's Dolby Vision implementation. All other implementations of Dolby Vision from other apps and with Blu-ray work. Only the Apple TV app and Movie app version exhibit the problem.

Just went back and looked at episode 4 of For All Mankind and the scene in the car that had the issue seems to have been resolved! Had no issues watching episode 8 that was just released. I have not gone back and looked at other scenes I was having issues with, but I’d assume that they’ve been resolved!

Same issue for me too with ATV+ content. (Philips 65PUS7304/12)

Was kinda hoping the reason DV was pulled was to fix the issue, but the problem remains now that DV is back.

Seems weird that it’s not as widespread of an issue.

What are the common factors for us here?

I’ll try to test out the replugging of HDMI as others have said this helps but wouldn’t I need to pause the movie on the problem scene to see if it worked and, if I change inputs, wouldn’t the Apple TV force me to run the Dolby Vision test again?

I think you’re right and I won’t hold my breath on Apple fixing it any time soon.

We seem to be in a minority with this issue.

Oh well, they lose a sub for ATV+ from me since the problem is more apparent there than anywhere else.

I have to say, I dont think even the 'fixed' image is correct (on mine at least), its just better than the bad image. The shadows are blocked up and have a blueish tinge to them. Just my observations. Hard to tell as I've not seen it as 'correct'

Since I think we’ve established that no one has issues with DV via the smart TV apps ie Netflix but all issues seem to be anything running from ATV through HDMI, can we say that no one has had any issues running DV from any other source through HDMI ? Just to be sure it’s definitely isolated to ATV hardware/software?

half a year has passed since original post and people (incl. me) still experience frustration on buying Dolby Vision enabled TVs to discover that AppleTV 4K doesn't deliver Dolby Vision promised by Apple even on their own shows. blame it on cables, Apple, as you do, nice try

my image is t a little blurry on Apple TV app, iTunes movies, movies anywhere and vudu. But on the tv built in apps everything is clear.

I have the exact same issue, Everything was fine until TVOS 12.4 UPDATE!! , I HAVE AN LG 70UH700V, FIX THOIS!
