Apple TV app problem loading content error

How do I fix this error message on appletv? Internet is fine. Restarted appletv (with unplugging) multiple times. Movie rental simply stopped playing after 1 hour.

I was in the middle of watching a movie I own and all of a sudden the movie stopped playing on my Apple TV and presented me with an error that it was unable to load the content. This is happening on all 3 of my Apple TV’s devices and all content that I own. I can play on a local machine, but can not stream.

I have a large collection of movies on my iMac which was streaming to my new 4K Apple TV just fine yesterday. Today all I get is the message “there’s a problem loading this content“ when trying to watch any of the movies, which were ripped from my DVD collection. None were purchased. . It’s playing music from that computer just fine as well as showing the two TV shows on that computer. I rebooted the iMac and nothing changed. It shows images of all of the movies on the screen as well as the descriptive information, cast, director and other metadata but doesn’t show the artwork. But when I press on the play button I get the error message. I just checked my older Apple TV on another TV and it has the same problem. What now?

I’m embarrassed to tell you what my problem was. Where I live there is a guest Wi-Fi network. Somehow my iMac had been changed to the guest network. The clue was that I could not print on either of my printers. As soon as I put it on the right Wi-Fi both Apple TVS and both printers started working.

I have another problem. One movie refuses to be loaded into iTunes, using either drag and drop or File -> Add to Library menu command to load the movie into the library.

I have mine hooked up via ethernet with speeds of 830mbps. Speed or connectivity isn’t an issue. However I failed to mentioned that it does work occasionally but at odd hours of the day. For example does work during the day but tried it twice at 3.am and it works fine. Then stops working the the following day. Tis frustrating as I have contacted Apple support but they still can’t provide any solution.

I am thankful that I am not the only one facing this problem.

I have this issue too since last Friday Jan 10, 2020. At a certain time of the day it will not play on any device - PC/Macbook, iPads, ATV3 or ATV4k. Then the next day it will play fine all morning to evening then quit out at the same time. iTunes movies or TV shows (that I own) but Music plays fine. Even trailers will not play.

Weird thing is that I can download a movie in iTunes at max speed during the outage time but it will not stream. Most of the viewing is done on the ATV4k so that is pointless.

Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ all play fine in 4k or HD. Speeds are 900MB-1GBps. No settings have been changed for ages.

Thank you! FWIW I’m seeing it now. iTunes only, on both AppleTV (Wired) and iPhone (WiFi). Able to stream from all services and some subset of iTunes vids but not last week’s Good Place 🙄

I’m able to get it to fail on a second episode in another season, but not on episodes of shows never run on device so I don’t think it’s a network thing on our side.

Messages goes back and forth between “The iTunes Store is currently unavailable” and “unable to play content”.
