Can’t hear a phone call through headset

It’s called a MONOPOLY. Apple forces you to buy their products. They do an update on your phone to make sure they block all third-party devices. Then you’re forced to buy their device such as iPod pros in order for you to make phone calls. It’s called a MONOPOLY.

They won't fix it.

I would never buy an Apple product again. This persistent and deliberate problem is on my work phone. I use the speaker or a (non-Apple) bluetooth headset.

This "you'll do it and you'll like it" cravenly denied bossiness is the last straw for me.

No, I haven't tried the experiment which you mentioned. I'll give it a try. I know my plug-in Apple headphones don't work with phone calls any longer. They used to. And, yes, I paired with the bluetooth functions. I'll let you know what happens with the experiment, but it has to do with a software upgrade, one would think, if everything USED to work properly. Having the same problem on my 8, running version 13.3.1. I was hopeful your tip would help but my phone was already set to Automatic. I was bummed but thought I’d exhaust all options so I tried Bluetooth and Speaker too.

And nothing helped.

STILL NO ANSWER! They even delete your comments if they don’t like them. My last comment was deemed speculative!!!!! We Apple if you can’t provide an answer after a year, what’s left other than speculation. Give one then to the millions of customers who paid 30$ for headphones that are useless , as the main use of a phone is CALLS!!!!!!

I have this trouble also. I recently started using a iPhone 7 and this is the first time I have attempted to use earbuds on a phone call. They work great on music and everything else (including hearing the digits dialed), but not on a phone call. Does anyone know of a fix?

I just bought new adapters for my Bose headphones and the adapters don’t work. I can hear music and the apps but when on phone I cannot hear the other person speak. If apple continues to sell adapters and then block sound then they will surely lose business. Not a good way to support their paying public in a time of crises. UNBELIEVABLE AND SELFISH. I won’t buy Apple again. I am also a teacher and I will not recommended to the hundreds of students and parents I have contact with. Very unsatisfied.

Yet one more instance of the same issue. Using a new (refurbed) iPhone 8 with the lightening adapter and Apple earbuds from my last iPhone. Earbuds work fine through the adapter for everything except phone calls. Given when this thread started, it is ridiculous that Apple has not fixed this so that it works properly.

The problem is that I can listen to music just fine with the wired earphone it is only phone calls that I can sometimes hear, it will work for a little bit and then you cannot hear or it is really faint.

Same issue for me on iPhone 11...can listen to music but not phone calls though earphones. I am using an adapter with older, but I imagine this may be a problem with lightening earphones too. Seems its been months of people asking and no real reply. I'm going to call Apple support and see what they say. W

I feel like I might have to put a stop my brand loyalty and go to android. It seems like I am always having problems with Apple but I really do love but I cannot keep having issues with a product that I use so much.

Apple whats the deal, update us on this. Just got black wire plantronics headset and cannot hear calls through it. audio media works fine. even when i dial the numbers i can hear that sound via the headset but as soon as it starts ringing it switches audio output to phone. FIX This please.

I have the same issue. It's very annoying. My lightning-2-Jack adapter is not official. Could this be related to the issue? It sounds like a SW issue as sounds comes through for any other application (when not in calls). Does someone have the same problem using official Jack adapter?

Exactly the same issue here IPhone X > lightening to 3.5mm adaptor > (Bose or Samsung headset) music player, spotify, video, all web audio content can be heard. Make a voice call and zilch..

No such luck for me after a restart. What is odd is that I can even hear the keypad tones through my wired earphones yet when I test the called party call voice is coming back via the phone earpiece (as opposed to the same wired earphones).
