ios 13 and itunes support

Does anyone what Apple plans to do regarding itunes and ios 13 support? Apple released today itunes 12.10.0.7 for Windows users which presumably has ios 13 support but there has been no update for mac users. I am running High Sierra 10.13.6

I remember last year Apple made it really complicated for Mac users because they installed ios 12 on their phones but itunes was not recognizing the phone when it was connected. Everyone had to figure out how to get things working again when Apple released a software update to get itunes to recognize ios 12. It was a big pain.

I've also been able to connect and backup my iOS 13 device in High Sierra using iTunes 12.6.5.3, which is the last version that supports app management or can restore iPod clickwheel games to an iPod classic.

Yeah. I already tried that. Nothing happens. No windows or popups. Nothing happens and iTunes does not see my iPhone ios13. The iTunes is already running the newest version for high sierra. 12.8.2.3

via techspot:

Note: iTunes 12.9 is not available as a standalone installer. Apple has chosen to only make available bundled with Mojave. You can always download the installer for iTunes 12.8 from here and then update once installed.

Here's what transpired for me.

A friend brought over MacBookPro running Mojave. They don't have iPhone right now.

We connected my iphone SE ios 13 and it immediately brought up a screen saying it needed to download an update (for the MacBook Pro). Very generic looking download dialog box, black/grayish. I've seen screenshots somewhere within these discussions. At one point it said it needed to close iTunes. We closed iTunes and unplugged the iPhone from the MBP.

We waited and it appeared to complete, but no real confirmation popped up.

We opened iTunes and nothing popped up.

We made sure iPhone was unlocked and we connected it.

It was Recognized by iTunes!!

We ejected the iPhone and closed iTunes.

I took my iPhone SE, iOS 13, over to my Mac running High Sierra.

I opened iTunes. I made sure iPhone was still unlocked. I plugged it in.

iTunes popped up the same message that the MBP popped up... That software needed an update before could access the iPhone. We did the same as we did on the MBP, closing iTunes when prompted, unplugging iPhone, reopening iTunes, reconnecting iPhone.

My Mac mini, High Sierra iTunes now recognizes my iPhone SE!

For info: Before the whole process, my Mac mini HS 10.13.6, was fully updated with all available Apple updates, was running iTunes 12.8.2.3. After it recognized my iPhone SE, iTunes still says 12.8.2.3

I still have another iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 12.4.1. It can be updated to iOS 13 and it shows notification for this.

I have not done it. It is my main phone. I am really scared and leery to try! OMG!

I'm wondering if the deleting and reinstalling of iTunes would work. It sort of sounds like it might.

I don't know if we just lucked out using my friends MBP!

I will post back after I get the courage to try with my main iPhone!!

Hope this helps someone....

Did you really connect and backup your iOS device in High Sierra using the iTunes 12.6.5.3 version?...

This is extremely interesting, because everywhere else it is said to be impossible due to the fact iTunes 12.6.5.3 is depreciated. So that would be a great news in order to keep local backup and carry on with this great version of iTunes.

Interesting! I know I helped someone over the phone and they had OS Mavericks. It asked to get an update (for iTunes), and then closed iTunes. They then unplugged the iPhone 8 plus which they had updated to the 13 (don't know if it was 13.1 or above) and iTunes recognized the phone.

They did not experience any of the "no phone showing" in iTunes. Of course they did not have HS and they were using a MBP.

But, clearly, there is an issue here for MANY users!! I have two Macs and I tried 3 iPhones!! iTunes would ask for permission, the dialog box would pop up on the iPhone and permission given, but the iPhone never showed up!

I was even on the phone with Apple for almost 3 hours and they had no problems just telling me that I need Mojave or greater, even after me telling them my hardware is not on their compatible list! Telling me that my choices were to buy new computers or use only the iCloud to backup my phones! (We even tried deleting everything and resetting the iPhone. That reset every thing, but it was still iOS 13! And, that did NOT work.)

That's not an acceptable solution Apple, especially since I am not the only one!

I still have an open case and I will be getting back in touch with them soon... I was just hoping to find a real solution.

I am thinking you tried the usual, like rebooting your Mac and checking to make sure you have all App Store system updates. Do you have a recent clone of your Mac that you can boot to for testing or Time Machine when you know it was running?

Did you try turingtest2 's suggestion RE: installing the “mobile device uploader” Look though this thread.

(that seems to have worked for other for help with iTunes)

OX Daily has a good page on removing iTunes and reinstalling it:

http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/06/delete-itunes-mac-os-x/

Before you make any changes, be sure to do a backup of your choice (clone or Time Machine, etc)

I hope you get it running.

Thank you very kindly. I did reboot and checked for any updates. As for the rest of what you were mentioning, I haven't a clue. This is all a bit overwhelming for me. I just look things up, play my music and check email and thats about what I know. And the email isn't working either. It was fine before this last update, that much I know.

I don't know how to back it up either. Thats what the time machine is for?! I will read about the time machine.

Thank you again for your response. I will keep reading threads.

Running High Sierra & iTunes 12.8.2.3 - I had the same problem, kept getting the message that a software update was needed. However the software download would seem to take forever and then come back with a message saying that it had failed... I tried 6 or 7 times to download the software, tried different USB ports, restarts of iPhone (with IOS 13 installed) etc but it still hung. I finally got it to work when I replaced the non-Apple made USB to Lightning cable with an actual Apple made USB to Lightning cable. Weird huh - but it worked! The download completed and I can now synch my IOS 13 iPhone with High Sierra/iTunes 12.8.2.3

Thank you tt2. This worked great for me.

I have multiple systems and devices. My older iMac could not be updated beyond High Sierra (10.13.6). I updated both my iPhone 7 (iOS 13.1.2) and iPad mini4 (iPadOS 13.1.2) and neither was recognized by iTunes. However my old iPod and iPhone 5s (12.4.2) continued to be to recognized. Further my MacBook Air with Catalina (10.15) saw the iPhone 7 and iPad Mini 4. So it seemed obvious that the problem was in the interface between iTunes 12.8.2.3 and iOS 13.1.2 and not a cable or connector on the devices.

Your suggestion for getting the software update solved the issue. Thanks again!

Well, tried today with the new release of iOS 13.1.3 and it did not synchronized at all...

Under macOS 10.3.6 with itunes 12.6.5.3, I could download the iOS update for an iPad 5 under iOS 12.4.1, but then it refuses to install the newest version. A pop-up appears saying that "this iPad 5 can not be upgrated to the latest version due to an old version of the internal software".

Did you proceed directly with this version of iTunes 12.6.5.3 to download and install iOS 13?

Oct 16, 2019 6:09 AM in response to Benzebut

I generally do over the air updates, and my Mac is normally running Catalina these days. I can drop back to Mojave to use iTunes instead of the new apps, or High Sierra when I want to use iTunes 12.6.5.3 for testing, manipulating iOS app layout, or sticking iPod clickwheel games back on my classic (which just dumped its library again - bah!). My iPhone is updating now but I'm not at home. I also realize now that I've inadvertently revealed I'm running beta software on the iPad. Oops.

Dear turingtest2,

OK, so the iDevice with iOS 13 can synchronise with iTunes 12.6.5.3 under High Sierra then. But you did not try to upgrade it directly through iTunes 12.6.5.3 for this major release.

This is where I am stuck right now with older versions of iOS, either on compatible iPhone or iPad, whithout knowing what an old version of the internal software is...
