Photos in iMessage disappeared after ios13 update

I have the same problem. I just notice because I need to check on a Photo in my messages. All gone. Checked icloud and not even there. Mine has automatic backup to iCloud but seems that it wasn't. Last back up date was Aug 7, 2019. Crazy!

I have tried EVERYTHING. Still unable to get this fixed. I also updated my iphone 7 to the same software and all of the pictures were initially missing but came back overnight. With my iphone 11, the pictures do show on the text thread but only photos within the last ~30 days show in my "info" tab. I have reset my phone 4 times and nothing has worked.

Has anyone confirmed that its the iOS update and not the phones themselves? Weird that I dont have the issue with my iphone 7, just my iphone 11 and both have been updated to the latest software.

Exactly the same script I was told back in February... still no substance. I've tried so many things, all from this thread since Apple doesn't seem to want to help. When I got off the phone with the advisor person I felt like they were seriously working on a solution and did give a ****. Now I've just given up. I hope they fix it, I miss having my stuff where I left it before the upgrade, but they don't seem to care.

Sad to hear that. I had a pretty good experience, much better than my efforts when I called Verizon. Verizon just kept hanging up on me. The guy at Apple gave me an email and a phone number to reach him, which I’ve never had someone do that before from a call center. He said if I have any further issues he’s assigned to my case so I can reach him directly. Obviously doesn’t fix my issue, but was nice to feel like someone cared.

I realized I’m also having this issue! I went back to find a funny picture my boyfriend had sent me and every photo is gone, except maybe the last four. It doesn’t even give me the option to download within the message thread. I when I open the box of where a picture would be it just says JPEG Along with numbers of the photo. No option to open or download. It did give the option to “download from iCloud” but still nothing downloaded. These pictures are very important to me... hoping for a fix. I thought maybe because he had a different phone brand... guess not. I also have an iphone 6 but running 12.4.6 so maybe not an update issue?

I’m having the same issue. May 2020 now this issue first raised in sept 2019.

i followed everyone’s comments for troubleshooting and now I’m doing the last one to completely reset my phone and set up as new phone and then sign into Apple ID.

i know there are Hundreds of photos here in these messages and this is what comes up, no where to click the links at all or download any photos.

If I've learned anything over this past few months, it's that Apple support doesn't really seem too concerned about this, as I was told it was being escalated to engineering back in January I think...and still no solution from them.

I press the download button and nothing happens. It either sits there and pretends to download, or it just keeps letting me hit download. And then if I go back to the messages, and try to go into the info to retry, it disappears and this isn't at the bottom of the info screen.

I also have the same issue since updated to ios 13.0 and no update has fixed it so far.

i tried everything suggested online and no joy.

I think its an issue with icloud during restoration because I checked with my wife and few friends and they don’t have this issue.

So awful I had the nightmare start on January 17 after buying a new phone and upgrading I got some things back on February by April 30 I was having issues again by May 14 I went from ringworm to another and all of a sudden all of my indexing a Photos was gone in messages from my mom and from my children missing from over four years no matter how many times I restore factory reset a sign in and out of iCloud back iCloud back up to iTunes or back up to the cloud nothing comes back it is the worst thing ever and hours and hours and hours spent on Apple support with no answers.All I know is I have more than four years of lost memories and photos in attachments and text messages that I cannot recover! I am not sure that I will ever go back to an iPhone once this one is paid off

I didn’t have the problem until I upgraded my device and software. I had the 7plus, and then I upgraded to the 11Pro. It shows me that there’s things in the cloud and it’ll tell me to download, but then when I hit the download button, nothing happens. Or it’ll pretend to download but then none of the photos appear. But if I scroll through the messages the photos are there that I know should be in the info thread.

I have the 11 pro max 256g with 200MB of iCloud and this started back in October when I bought the phone I have been bought another one because I am with T-Mobile and I have a program where you can jump. Ever since 13.0 and the indexing it crashed - I did have the same issue or I should say that’s a blessing at this point where I could scroll through and see the messages in the attachments in the messages without the indexing but I May 14 all of that crashed with about 10 to 15 people in my contacts and I have nothing no text messages and no attachments for over four years!! Apple needs to get this fixed!!! It’s awful ... countless hours with support - 15 apple tickets - and nothing!!!

It’s disappointing that it seems to be the premium devices from the last two years - and that’s when they really took prices up as well.

Im tempted to ask for a hardware swap. Maybe I’ll do an in person Genius Bar appointment when they reopen.

You know now that you said that it is since I had the 11 promax I did not have the issue with my 10 max.... paying $1100 for a phone you should not lose things and paying for extra cloud space should solve any issues! I’ve never seen such a mess!

I have the same issue. I can manually add them but need to go into each and every message. Problem is though, that the photos/videos goes into the message, but are not shown in “show all”. obviously they should be in both places as impossible to go 12 months back with people write with often.
