After updating to iOS 13, all photos previously sent and received through iMessage are gone. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution?

Just a suggestion which you may have already tried, but on my phone if I click on the info icon at the top and scroll to the bottom it says x number of images in iCloud and there is an option to download them. Hope this helps
I've clicked on this many times, but nothing ever happens.
Within texts I have option to download pictures as well, but clicking on it says it's downloading but nothing happens.
Exactly the same here... issue STILL exists, even after the latest IOS update. It's unbelievable Apple doesn't fix this problem...

There is absolutely no fix and the only thing Apple tells you is to wait for another software update. It is heart wrenching I'm in your same shoes

Yes it’s still an issue it still doesn’t work on May 14 I was sitting in my den I went to bed and half of my messages from several people and all of the attachments are gone
I wonder if it’s an iOS flaw only with certain devices. Most of the complaints seem to be with newer devices. I’m on an XS max and iOS 13 and have the problem. I hope iOS 14 finally fixes it.
